Carolyn McCarthy emotional response to Chris Christie "grandstanding" comment

July 24, 2012 11:31 AM

Rep. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.), whose husband was killed and son seriously injured in a mass shooting in 1993, had a strong, emotional response to comments Gov. Chris Christie (R-N.J.) made that politicians were "grandstanding" after the shooting massacre in Aurora, Colo., last week.

An excellent and well-researched CNN World online article and video compares the U.S. record with other countries world wide, at "Time to face facts on gun control," by Fareed Zakaria.

I lived in Morris County, New Jersey for many years... Chris Christie got his start there, unfortunately, practicing his particular brand of "thug" politics even then. He's in over his head as Governor of New Jersey, and the thought of him as Vice President ought to cause any reasonable to smile fondly at the Canadian border.

Funny how it is that when you see Ms. McCarthy, its when she's "dancing in the victims blood". With her, "if only that wachosickderanged person would have turned in that gun", a none answer to any violence commited in a "gun free zone", which she says will help us all. It's sorta like hanging a sign in your yard that says, "No guns in this house". I know no one would do such a thing. But McC. wants all homes, houses, appartments, places of employment, worship, where we shop, etc. etc. to try to make that sign unneeded. She wants no guns anywhere. I don't know the details, but I'm sure that there was at least one person in that movie house that has a "carry permit", it is one of the States that follows the Bill of Rights correctly, but left it locked up in the trunk of the car, or didn't carry at all because the party KNEW it wasn't allowed in the movie house. After all, its us non-criminals that obey the law, and signs when posted.

But then comes the push for "gun control", from her and all the ones like her, that subscribe to her way of thinking. They call for "New" regulations like the "Assault Weapons Ban", that expired in 2004. It was allowed to expire because it did NOTHING. It made a semi-automatic firearm illegal for cosmetic things. One was if an AR-15 had an adjustable stock, nothing about any of its machanics, juat the way it looks. That is the only thing she and others like her do, cause emotion to be interjection, "we must do something" right away is her call, whether it works means nothing. Panic and fear are her allies. She was sworn in and in that swearing is the passage "To protect and uphold the Constitutions and the Bill of Rights". That means its her JOB to uphold those Rights, all of them, the First, Second the Third all of them.
Think for a second, about Chicago and Washington, DC. Both had total bans on firearms. Yet they were constantly ranked as the worst when it came to firarms. How can that be?!?

I wonder why it is that someone using a car, or truck or whatever in an unlawful manner why there isn't any "car control". In that crime its the criminal that is held responsible for the crime. Yet when someone uses a gun in a crime, its the gun that is accused, not so much the criminal. Then she and other politco's blame guns. The guns that are held by the lawabiding. Those guns caused all this. Its that private citizens have legal guns. That's how the criminals have guns. If you look at what McCarthy is saying its absolutely stupid.

There in it is the rub...EVERY tragady since the mid 1990's has been in a "gun free zone". Ever wonder why the nuts that had been speaking to friends about "changing something or other"? Notice that no matter how nuts they are, they always choose a gun free zone. Somehow they know or remember not to shoot up police stations, or shooting ranges, or anywhere that has armed people.

So Rep. McCarthy, how about applying the law to the criminal. Several other States have, and its working out pretty good. Also notice that in States that have concealed carry that Major Crimes, Rape, Robbery, Murder have dropped considerably. So there goes the "if we are armed" it wouldn't work. All you have to do is look at how violence has DROPPED in Chicago and Washington DC.
I'd say that was a pretty significant record.

I didn't hear the comments made by Governor Christie, but he is known for making very pointed remarks. I did, however, watch Ms. McCarthy's response and applaud her continued efforts regarding gun control. I can understand an individual's right to own a rifle for hunting or a handgun for home security, but cannot fathom how any individual can accumulate an arsenal of assault weapons and armor without raising some sort of "red flag". Unfortunately, it has been reported that gun sales increased dramatically on Monday following the tragedy on previous Friday.

I heard Christie's comment.
It was senseless, calloused and uncalled for.
At a time like this nobody needs a dose of Christie-drama.

Half our problem is, half the reason there will be more Aurora's, is because leaders like Christie and McCarthy only come off like so much theatre themselves instead of fixing the future in favor of young people.

I didn't hear what Christie said and don't care to.

It should be astonishing to all of us, how the 2nd Amendment is taking the hit for this tragedy, as opposed to the Federal Reserve, multinational corporations, criminals like Madoff, and the media themselves who've precipitated today's current state of affairs.

You bet your ass there's a reason why hollow sleezeballs want to control guns.

The fact remains that in Aurora, the death toll would have been less, had anyone else in the theatre been armed. And I don't mean with a stinking podium.

Christie has a big mouth and often does not think before he acts or speaks. In this case, his tirade just took him out of the VP consideration if Romney has any class at all.

Bravo, Carolyn McCarthy! Well said. I hope that Governor Christie is listening.
