Steve Jobs was already gravely ill with cancer when he asked author Walter Isaacson to write his biography. Jobs told Isaacson to write a honest book -- about his failings and his strengths; Also, Autistic people whose condition prevents them from speaking are making breakthroughs with the help of tablet computers and special applications that allow them to communicate.
- Your viewers should know that the ipad and its communication applications support many disabilities in the area of communication. Our eleven year old Down syndrome son has never been able to speak, communicating only through sign language and pointing. He has been working on an ipad for the past two years leaning and it has enhance his communication skills tremendously. We now know how he feels, what he thinks and exactly what he wants. We are moving away from the sign language to encourage his communication to come completely from the ipad so he will be able to integrate into society more effectively. He learned how to navigate the application very quickly and we were surprised to find out how many words and ideas he already knew. It was like the door was opened and he could join the living. The application he uses is call Touch Chat, which was recommended by his school program and which they use on a daily basis. I hope other parents of non-communicative children will be able to benefit from this gift. Thanks for your coverage on this topic.
