Rob Portman condemns health care law in weekly GOP address

July 14, 2012 9:45 AM

In something of an audition for Mitt Romney's running mate spot, Ohio Sen. Rob Portman delivered the Republicans' weekly address, condemning the Affordable Care Act as an "unaffordable health care spending law" that will "do something President Obama promised he would never do: hit millions of middle class Americans with a massive tax increase."

I'm not surprised when folks whose only information source is Rush or Fox mouth the "massive middle-class tax increase" lie. But Portman is a policy wonk who headed Bush's Office of Management and Budget. He HAS to know that a 2.5% tax on 4 or 5 million households that can afford health insurance but REFUSE to carry it is NOTHING LIKE a "massive middle-class tax increase." But I guess if ya wanna be Vice President, ya gotta parrot the party line....

I agree, these don't seem to be Portman's words. If FDR did what Portman is proposing, we'd be saying "Heil, Hitler!"

So, Rob is pissed off at Romney?

Don't worry, so is Romney:

His people helped create the system he's openly bashing. Why the heck should anyone, even you, give him a shred of credibility or time?

Indeed, why does Obama want to continue working with these people? Anyone paying attention will readily see that Obama using GOP's policies as a chess move to tongue-tie his opponents is pretty suave. Given the intellect of many in the GOP who blindly bash Obama on everything, it makes me understand more and more why Obama had to play chess in the first place.

Obama has my full support, since I want to work with him to make this country a better place. Especially if, after the debates, he chooses to stop working in bipartisanship with the GOP, who will hound him to heck and back. But the GOP has shown a lot over the last 3 years.

And all the GOP can do is chase its own tail.
