This is disappointing news to say the least, but hopefully it will not detract from the overall message of Mortensen's books. The positive here is that (hopefully) now that this information has been brought to light, the Central Asia Institute can do a better job supporting its mission. Educating children in these parts of the world should be America's primary "weapon" in fighting extremism, and the prolonged war on terrorism. As I write this comment, the young girl Malala Yousafzai continues to be in serious condition after the attack on her life for promoting girls education in Pakistan. May our thoughts and prayers be with her.

Those who rush to Mortenson's defense should read up on Montana's Attorney General's conclusions about him as of this spring. Montana citizens have every reason to defend their own guy, and facts don't lie. Mortenson's story was not fact-based....even though the charity certainly has done some good.

This jerk should be thrown in jail. He's a sleaze ball that will eventually burn in Hell but until then he should be shunned and his book signings should be protested. He needs to write a book to explain why he is such a liar profiting on others misfortunes. Greg Mortenson is a first rate con man who will lie cheat and con his way into others bank accounts through his sleazy charity. And I'll be laughing out loud when his sleazy lying world falls apart while he rots in prison somewhere. I hope it isn't an American prison they are too good for this scum ball. He should be in a 3Rd world jail with dirt and bug rice for dinner.

compared to greg mortenson's achievements in pakistan and afghanistan, the possibility of inaccuracies in his book(s) is miniscule and i find your reporting on it petty and inconsequential.

This is the sign of the times in which we all live. Psychopaths seem to be ubiquitous. Moreover, psychopaths rule the roost.

Bill Clinton is essentially doing the same thing with charity money destined for Haiti. Just another psychopath in control who shouldn't be.

The challenge of our time is to keep power from falling to the psychos.
