I am an American of Chinese and Irish descent, married into a Serbian Family, where my father in law Sava had risked his life in WWII for America, jumping behind enemy lines with the OSS. Sava's wife was of Scottish descent, and we had a wonderful daughter who was part Serbian, Chinese and Irish and Scottish. During the War with the US, we spent every moment discussing Serbia, how unfair it was for America to have sided with Croatia, and with Albania. We joined American Serbian groups, Religious Organizations, and we marched on Washington like in the 1960s, and went to the Hill to ask for fairness in the media, for real coverage, all we got was a stonewall. There was a complete media
blackout, the Serbs were demonized!! I knew the feeling, all my life I had lived with Irish jokes and knowledge of British repression, with the Chinese in California being treated like a disease (yellow peril in the 1800s and 1900s), I knew all my life what happens when the press gets a hold of a story, and you are the enemy, its nothing but lies and myths. Every talk show we called into, to get even a minute in, would cut you off, it was like the Japanese in WWII. I am surprised they did not round up Serbian American's and put them into an internment camp, of course they would not, because we had matured from then, and our constitution forbade it. But it was really incredible, my American people, freedom loving Americans, who fought WWII and saved the free world, who always could look at the truth, were now not even allowing a dialogue, literally Not One Serbian was allowed to speak!! Really!! Novak Djokovic has been the only reason the press look at the Serbian people at all, he has restored the nation from the terrible myths and lies to actually being viewed as the great people they are, great Europeans with a Unique history!! And Ana Evanovic has shown the world the sweet face of goodness. In spite of all the bad press, they have come out smiling and loving life, and not hating the United States. I am proud that my daughter descents from two WWII grandfathers who both were part of the greatest generation, descended from Great Serbian people, Great people in Ireland, and a great Chinese Grandfather, that's what makes America great, our diversity and our struggles, and overcoming adversity, carry on Nole Djokovic!!!
