Evidence of Innocence: The case of Michael Morton

March 25, 2012 4:20 PM

After nearly 25 years in prison, Michael Morton was exonerated by a DNA test. Did a prosecutor hide evidence that could have proven Morton's innocence during his 1987 trial?

Too few people realize how terribly corrupt and unjust our criminal justice (sic) system is. This horrific case is, unfortunately, but one example. The sex offender laws, brought about by a few heinous cases have been used and abused by unscrupulous politicians, overly zealous prosecutors and drama-driven media to bloat the registry with primarily not dangerous people, esp. not dangerous to small children. Sex offenses are what many prosecutors call "EASY WINS" BECAUSE they require so little real evidence. And you better believe there are too many cases that put innocent men in prison or on the now life-long registry essentially ruining their and their families lives.
My mentally-ill son was falsely accused many years ago. The girl grew up and recanted and gave a strong deposition. The prosecutor in Maryland won't reconsider the case..it's been in limbo for years. When a child lies (which she said she did because she was trying to think of a way to get my son away from her older sister, who she was very attached to.) Her grandmother and another woman gave her the idea, she said because they thought my son was "wierd"...same word the prosecutor used. My son's looks and personality made him appear strange (he has schizoaffective disorder, like his father did). He trusted people much too easily. In this neighborhood called Pigtown, he was a lamb among wolves. I've learned getting accused is easy. Getting a false accusation overturned can take forever. The Innocence Project was interested in my son's case but they are overloaded and have little funding. I hope people begin to look at these laws and begin to make distinctions..but, there has been a real witch hunt in the U.S. about sex offenses and so there's been few distinctions made and once accused, you're guilty forever.

If there is a hell, Ken Anderson is destined to go there and suffer all the agony he wrongly inflicted upon Michael Morton.

This is a great example of how perverse "Texas justice" is while pursued by "law and order" types.

Michael Morton is my new hero. For him to Live the nightmare that most of us only HAVE on occasion, and emerge from a quarter century of unlawful imprisonment with such a glorious attitude and demeanor is nothing short of a miracle. I don't believe 2 million dollars is nearly enough to compensate him for what Anderson and Co. took from him and his son. All those missed father-son moments. "Judge" Anderson should have to pay Mr. Morton every cent he has earned since consciously sabotaging Mr. Morton's life. I mean every single penny as a dirty prosecutor and a filthy judge. Imagine Anderson being a "judge" when the "convict" Mr. Morton is a thousand times the man Anderson could ever hope to be. If there is a God, I hope He/She/It has big, unpleasant plans for Mr. Anderson and every other dirty "seeker of truth and justice" that has ever caused someone like Mr. Morton to be robbed of the life he or she was supposed to live.

My question for the former prosecuter is what about the death of the second woman?!?! I can't help but think that she would not have been murdered if Anderson had taken his position more seriously and gone after the real murdered, there would have been less deaths. Her blood is on Anderson's hands

I dont trust the cops, D.A. or judges. Too much corruption or power for humans to have over one another.
