See all 94 CommentsI cannot think of any way someone could hang themselves with a purse strap. It is the wrong shape, the wrong size, and likely would have broke. In fact, he was laying on the floor, so this is exactly what happened: The strap either broke, or slipped off. Where was it when the body was found? Still suspended? Laying nearby? What condition was it in? How badly was it stretched? was there blood on it? Why was there not blood on the stairs where he is alleged to have hung himself? Why was there not a greater effort put in to investigating the type of head wound, size, depth, and type of implement?
Why is there only one crime-scene photo from one angle? I believe that during her three weeks in jail, she brokered a deal with Brazilian authorities which is why the fortune was left so depleted. This is why there was such a lack of evidence - it was lost, or removed due to the bribery. If she was a stripper in that city, she would have the shady contacts necessary to hire somebody to kill Gatti, and create a cover up.
We can see by the crime-scene photos that if she walked down the stairs and to the fridge, saw Arturo on the floor and assumed him sleeping, she had ought to have noticed blood. Have you ever walked in to a room and been able to tell that someone had been crying there, even without seeing it, or having reason to suspect? Blood works the same way. Subconsciously you would be immediately on edge with the pheromones, blood and adrenaline scent in the air. You would know something was up. Furthermore, the deceased person is known to defecate upon death. If one or the other of these did not immediately put Amanda on alarm, it is because she already knew. I believe she simply wasn't ready to report the death yet. It suddenly became too big for her. She needed some time to get her story straight, to ready herself for the next step.
It's a shame that the truth may never be known; we can only hope that someone who knows the truth steps forward one day, and can set Arturo to rest.
To the most exciting boxer who ever lived, the most courageous man who has stepped in to the ring, the man who could be cut with a rubber spatula, the eternal icon and legend, rest in peace Arturo Thunder Gatti.
I think she and Arturo really loved each other (notice there were no allegations of infidelity on either side). I think they were both victims of life and fate. Unfortunately, his strength in the ring failed him in life, and he let himself be defeated by fate. (Another example of the devastating perils of magnificent success in a profession unkind to those no longer youthful.) It was a true tragedy.
I wish Amanda the best; I think she's a lovely, likable young woman who deserves peace and happiness. I hope this horrible episode enriches her life with wisdom and understanding.
