Nebraska has enacted new laws that says that children need to be 5 on or before July 31 to start kindergarten. This will mean no more 4 year olds in Kindergarten. They only allow children born August 1st to August 15th the option to test in, and each district can set the standards for this test.

As they one lady said - "have your children in the winter." There is not magic number, no absolutely wrong or right answer. Each child need to be taken as individuals. This one size fits all society that we live in only makes anyone who is different, 5 or 45, advanced or behind, feel out of place.

I held both of my older children until right after or right before they turned 6. Funny how much easier it was to make that choice when it was my choice. I have no choice with my youngest child, she will be 6 when she starts kindergarten, even if she was ready at 5.
