Wow, a repeatedly rehearsed alibi speech. How much time had gone before this interrogation? I can't even remember what I did yesterday but he remembers things to the hour?! I guarantee this family has had issues with him all his life. Sociopaths don't just become a killer one day, they did odd or suspect things for many years. The family just couldn't figure out what they were dealing with. I know the sister wasn't all that shocked or surprised he was a suspect or committed the murders considering the relationship with his parents and his dire financial situation.

Oddly, I just reviewed the police interrogation of Ernie & the whole monologue sounds false. How many people can give a rundown of what they did on a certain day? This guy knew almost to the hour what he did. Moreover he used the word "alibi," which also sounds false. How many innocent people are going to use the word "alibi," or "It's not the strongest alibi"? How many innocent people are going to guide the police to phone records, etc.? That's the job of the police, if they choose to check up. No innocent person will say, "Check the phone records" or receipts, or whatever, unless specifically asked, such as "Do you think you can produce a bill for that pizza restaurant that has the time stamped?" As for the crime itself, it is indeed horrendous. Matricide, as the film PSYCHO puts it, is the most terrible crime; patricide, as OEDIPUS REX showed us (and Freud afterwards) is the most feared offense. And this fellow combined both murders in one and for what? What's scary is parents never know, when they dandle their newborn infant, that that child, decades later, will cause their brutal demise. Frankly I wish 24 HOURS had delved more deeply into the genealogy of such a personality because it couldn't have emerged suddenly over gambling debts; one assumes it must have had a long gestation period, a genealogy that was ignored by those around him. Did he do things as a child that might have hinted of such a sociopathic personality?

Just watched the interrogation of Ernie Scherer. Why did the police not ask him?
What movie did you watch?
What channel was it on?
What time was the movie on at?
Any hesitation on his part would have possibly caught him off gaurd if he hadn't pre-planned out the details of the movie.
