Joe Carbone clearly understands the issues and challenges faced by individuals who have been unemployed during the last several years. 60 minutes should be applauded for doing this segment - the ongoing unemployment issue has not continued to be adequately addressed. I look forward to seeing other segments that show creative and innovative ways the issue is being addressed and look forward to learning about other communities that are implementing similar programs like the one Joe Carbone has started. I have during my unemployment been fortunate to have had the opportunities to do interim and part-time positions, but these have been a temporary solution and not all have been in my field. In no way do these temporary and part-time roles provide even close to sufficient income or benefits.
Thank you again for airing this segement and please continue to do so. I suspect that unemployment is much worse than the statistics indicate. How many are doing part-time hourly and interim positions - am I considered no longer unemployed? I have a Masters degree and one of my positions is an hourly retail sales position (not my field). I continue everyday to pursue possible opportunities for full-time permanent employment (networking as well as checking job board postings), but the challenge gets more difficult everyday.
