I have been unemployed for one year and 90 days, I have a BA in Business Management/Human Resources and held a very comfortable job with the state of Florida until our Governor dissolved my position, along with 8000 others. I was offered a position 190 miles away from my home, and at the time thought as everyone else did "oh, I will find a job quick, I'm experienced, educated it will be no problem". Little did I know how wrong I was, I have searched vigorously for what seems to be a lifetime and the end result is depressing. I'm not sure how much more I can take, every day I pray for the strength to hang on just a little bit longer but I'm afraid it has taken it's tole on me. My marriage is over, my home will be foreclosed on, my car will be repossessed and all within just a few short days. I am unsure of how I got to this point and very sure that I cannot take much more.

We featured Joe Carbone's initiative on our blog as a model of what states can do to help ease unemployment.

The change in mental attitude with any type of uncertainty is very challenging and in my award winning book - Uncertainty to Confidence: A New Way of Living Your Life by Karissa Thomas is the first steps to changing your attitudes.

I can honestly say I do not feel like I will ever get a job. It has been years since I got laid off. After 20yrs at the same company. I eventually landed a job as a cashier at a local grocery store. $8.00 and hr and no benefits.I did not have a chance to finish my degree because I had 100% tuition reimbursement I have applied for every insurance job from Claims adjuster to working in the library and yet I have been consistently passed up. I devoted 20 yrs to one company and I have applied for no less than jobs with them and I have gotten rejection after rejection. I did not leave on bad terms I was laid off like everyone else. I check my status and was approved for rehire
The depression is killing. I don't want anything for free I just want to work and take care of my old child.

Very touching story. Grief and job loss are very real and we must deal with the emotional impact as well as teaching resume-writing, interviewing skills etc. http://tracywashington.com/im-mad-at-the-world-is-that-okay-with-you/

THREE CHEERS FOR JOE CARBONE!!!
He epitomizes what it means to be a human being with a heart and concern for others. LOVE his passion.
GREAT story. Can't emphasize enough that there are similar programs in MANY areas of the country, and everyone needs to find one to help them kick-start their new life!

This hit home for me as well. I have been out of work since July 2010 with a lot of rejections. I am involved in a similar program in IL and I already am starting to reap benefits from it.
In Illinois, a lot of positions are found through networking. I wonder if the Mr. Carbone's program uses networking as part of its program.

This program is still resonating with me on an emotional level. I, like many, have been looking for work or a full-time career for a very long time. It's a very isolating process; and I felt better that I'm not alone. I'm trying to go back to the beginning and reach out to individuals who can help me in the job search. Today, I went to a "Job Hunting Group" in Shaker Hts Ohio. A positive first step in a while. Keep it up because I have to believe that things will get better for everyone. We're not alone.

I agree we need to clean The House and Senate... And the White House.
There are solutions...

First, a fair Tax plan ..999 would work.. No tax breaks.

Second... Create jobs like OBAMA promised, but couldn't lead to get it done.
Pockets of Prosperity..Like Detroit, Teach people at 8.25 and hour to demolish and rebuild the city. Same with New Orleans. A lot like the WPA did.
Third. Build the YUMA AZ and Elk Point S.D. Refinery projects to increase production of oil from Canada and Mexico. This would be Pockets of prosperity for these area and create employment. It would also strengthen our security in the U.S. and we would save money on the transportation costs of middle east oil.

Pretty Simple..... Huh. Just have to find some leaders to get it started.
