Great story. And if we looked harder, there are SO MANY DIRTY COPS all over the world, they are just human. People would be surprised if they only knew the half of it! Anyway, thanx for covering this great story 48 hours

Butler has been like this his entire life. He shouldn't be out on bail and should be locked up on general population for the rest of his life. The narcotics cop should be as well. It says at the end of the story they are blaming each other. I guess it shouldn't matter as they both are way over the line of the law and knew better. Send them away, please.
One of the best stories and I hope you produce more like these. Thanks 48

I've got news for the trashy ho: that self-described (semi-) pretty face doesn't even *begin* to make up for the nasty skank-ink on her skin.

Thank you 48 Hours for this story. Yes, no one was murdered (thank god) and it was important to tell this story. Sometimes people do get caught up in the media/social aspect of being famous. Give these mom's a break. Yes they did fall pray to this idiot and hopefully they have learned a good lesson from this. The most important part is that these drug dealing scum bags are off the beat and will be tried and convicted. As for Carl Marino. I say good for you and I don't personally know you but I am proud that you were a good enough person to get these pigs charged. I don't know why you are not an officer anymore, but you did a good/great deed and I just need to tell you that. As for the moms. Maybe you should get together after all of this and form your own reality show. Hey if storage wars can do it, so can you! lol

I thought this episode was one of the BEST that 48 Hrs has ever done for the simple fact that the show made this story a national headline. We need wake-up calls about con men like Chris Butler to remind us that these sociopaths are out there and willing to do whatever it takes to get what they want, in this case a reality TV show. Chris Butler's obsession to get the Lifetime TV show set alot of tragedies in motion, most particularly the "dirty DUIs" that ruined families and resulted in some of their "targets" deaths by murder and suicide and even the death of 5 children of targets. The thirst Chris Butler had for fame would not be stopped until his deceit was uncovered by "Rutherford" aka ex-cop now male model Carl Marino via Diablo reporter Peter Crooks. I was saddened to see all of the personal wreckage of many lives not only by semi-duped employees (soccer moms) and the targets.
I think Carl Marino crossed many ethical lines while he worked for Butler but ultimately, he did the right thing and ratted Butler out to Peter Crooks. If he hadn't turned on Butler when he did, many more lives would have been ruined. I think Peter Crook's final statement on the show is the one that resonates with me the most. He spoke of the "snow globe" of Chris Butler's world and how everyone ended up inside that snow globe at some point, losing a piece of their soul, including himself. I commend Peter Crook for his honesty and accurate insight into this pervasively damaging "business" that was more crominal than the targets of the Private Investigator's firm was supposedly uncovering. Chris Butler should spend the rest of his life in prison for all the damage he caused to so many people,, the innocent, the not so innocent and the guilty - all beter human beings than he is to this day.

Hello everyone who looks forward to a new and exciting episode each week, but this episode STUNK !!!!

Sad but true. I was very disappointed. These so-called reality star detectives and story were really weak. There is better and more noteworthy stories to cover that provide drama and mystery.

Please, I love your show and I am a devoted viewer, but this is by far the most disappointing espiode I have watched. I felt I wasted my time viewing it (as some other have also).

Thank you.

Did not like this episode. Music was cheesy, everything seemed more sensationalized than usual. Usually the cases and stories portrayed on 48 Hours are interesting enough that they don't need so much hype surrounding it. None of the people interviewed were sympathetic, except for possibly Carl Marino, who ended up doing the right thing. There was even something about the Diablo reporter that I didn't care for. . . he seemed awfully proud of his involvement and excited to be interviewed. Hope the next episode is better.
