The sentences were not fair at all to me. They both should've received death, they both were in it together!

God bless these girls always. Beautiful family. I'm sure their grandma and mom would be so proud of them today, especially their dad.

Would love to comment on this story ... If the crap app worked reliably I might even get to watch it! That'd be great.

The sisters are beautiful people, and the convicted deserve death penalty, both of them. By murdering three people ( the dad's survival doean't give any credibility to the two criminals), taking their lives away without any second thought, you already lost the right to protect your own. Any appeal should be denied.

Thanks for sharing your life story. It's inspiring to see the family so bonded in love. 'Hope that you're also bonded in love with God and live in His forgiveness He has provided to us through the death of His dear Son.

The courage and character and resolve of the two girls, now women, and their father, and the quick response of their uncle saved their lives, and to make the cabin a refuge for their families again shows the worthless scum who killed their Mother and Grandmother that they did not win, but lost and this family will not be broken, but rises from the ashes and death of their loved ones in a way that honors them both. That forgiveness brought freedom for one victim is best for her, but the fact is that had her father not accomplished a superhuman feat by overcoming the shock and trauma of being shot at close range, being burned and set afire, the freezing temperatures, and chased down the trail to save his daughters the murderers would likely have gotten away, done their worst to the girls and then killed them in a horrible torturous way, and these monsters would have shown nor felt no regret, any more than they do now, although they have to suffer the consequences of their actions by being caught. I don't believe the second shooter hesitated out of mercy, he was a coward and afraid to shoot the girls' father so let the other sick bastard do it for him. The are both sick and evil and do not deserve to take another living breath. Evil does not go away nor have they changed. What they would have done would have been even more horrific because they were not done doing harm and killing yet, if they had got the car and got away. The father's actions saved them and the community rallyed quickly to save the girls and brought the killers to justice. Why the main shooter has gotten to live twenty more years is not right. He got a death sentence, why is he not dead? One jury member let the other one off with a prison sentence although he was fully complicit in the murders, even if he did not pull the trigger. They should both have gotten equal sentences and be condemned to die. What is the deterrent to horrible senseless crimes by sick deranged evil men like this if they get to sit in prison and eat three meals a day and have medical care and a place to sleep, while secretly enjoying the brutality and pain they inflicted on others? The survivors and their families are extraordinarily strong and resilient but many other peoples' lives would have been destroyed forever by what happened to them. We as a society need to know that the punishment will fit the crime, and if something evil and vicious and cruel is done to us then the perpetrators should suffer an equally devastating and quick fate. Then maybe those who would consider doing something as horrible as what these two murderers did will think twice and realize it is not worth the risk, and know that they will pay a terrible price for doing terrible crimes, including forfeiting their lives if they kill or murder someone else.
I hope that the two women and their families have long and happy lives
and God bless them all. The whole family is amazingly brave and strong and inspiring.

I know this happened 20 years ago, but I am so sorry for their loss. I love this family. I find them to be an inspiration.

I really hate it when people say horrible experiences make the victims "better people". I know it's trying to look at the positive side of things, but lots of time horrible experiences just leave people scarred and damaged. Sometimes a bad experience is just a bad experience.
