- I haven't seen the segment yet, so I'll withhold judgement on that. However, as a food scientist who works closely with flavorists and the flavor industry, I can assure you that there is no secret plot to make people addicted or dependent on certain foods. The flavor industry caters specifically to what food scientists want and need to develop a superior product. Food scientists use these flavors along with other ingredients to create products that consumers prefer at a price that consumers are willing to pay. There is no secret plot or conspiracy to trick consumers in buying foods or make them addicted. Ultimately, both the flavor and food industries cater to what consumers want.
