Very cool story. Does anybody know if iPads are being used help people with dementia to communicate? Many give up trying to speak when they can no longer come up with the word they want. Being able to point to icons on an electronic device would help keep the isolation at bay, I think. If there's already an App for this, please tell me. I miss my Dad.

For those interested in more information - there is a website http://autismandtheipad.blogspot.com/ where additional support and information can be found regarding touch tablet technology. A list of preferred apps is on the website. Also there is a facebook group- search for autism and ipad and join the group of parents, educators, therapists, and developers.

I noticed that the users in this segment were using their left hands to manipulate the iPad. Although a very small sampling, any significance?

The iPad is not a Deus ex Machina! Why not talk to the developers of the Apps that are helping the Autistic kids? Totally missed the point in my opinion.
