This show is pure love. Thank you. The girl who finally sang her name was just outstanding. When I see the faces of these beautiful young adults I see so many possibilities--so much positive from such dire circumstances. This is food for the spirit! Perhaps we could throw some of the trillion dollars we're spending on weapons to give to these wonderful singers.

I was just thinking about this today, I use music in my classroom to teach reading, children LOVE to sing and music is a wonderful way to energize and bring joy into the classroom. I use Sing, Spell, Read & Write http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJA2hMg9fdw 60 minutes did a wonderful spot here telling us all about the wonderful work of singing Gospel - Music and songs lift our hearts closer to God, may these teenagers be forever blessed with these songs in their hearts. Thanks for this spot and may you do more spots on the wonderful work that's going on with our kids. You're welcome to see what I'm doing IN the classroom to teach kids with songs. Best, Christine

Thank you, 60 Minutes, for capturing the amazing life changing situations brought about through the work of Vy Higginson and her school. My husband & I sat and wept together to watch this story of truly sacred leadership; one that leads for the greatest good of others. Vy we salute you and will be keeping a lookout for further news of your work.

Follow-up: This program for young people is way bigger than 60 Minutes. It needs to be made available to everyone attending school or otherwise as a real-life story of how you can surmount and overcome life's many obstacles. If only young people knew how highly thought of they are and how much hope we oldsters put into them to lead us in the future.

Yes, speak your names loudly. Think positive, be positive. A smile truly surpasses any 'flaws' we may have that we think we'd like to change.

I'm very inspired by each and every one of you and oh, yes: the program's very charming and beautiful leader, Vy.

The power of resilience is amazing and beautiful (albeit, oftentimes poignant and sad). I have been listening to so many beautiful children make such beautiful music. The cadence of gospel music is so powerful (and me, without a 'religious' bone in my body!).

Vy, keep on keeping on. Our children need you. Our world needs you.

In peace, Lots of Love, Sandi Lopez

Seldom have I viewed a program which moved me as much as this one did. The thumbnail sketches of the young people gave you a glimpse in their lives which appear to not be a picnic. I am trying to find out the history of the song sung by a number of them which roughly translated meant that no young black people should be told that they are "less than beautiful"; however, I can not find the origin of this song and a full rendition which I would dearly love to have and use for oug young black kids who need to be instilled with this idea of beauty. Thanks in advance, Stelsmer.

One must wonder at why our budget will pay for jail costs...not
the successful and preventative measures like the Harlem Boys Choir!

This was an inspiring story. I would hope (and plan to write to
various State politicos/authorities to suggest they see this wonderful
work and adopt it for those children in therapy; foster children,
those dragged into family court (as were my niece's children due to
her drug use and that of their fathers. Damn drugs!

Perhaps if this type of program was introduced with any type of music
that would be fitting to their needs...it could be a powerful boost
to their souls, their esteem and allow them to vent their feelings!
