Thanks for the well done episode, as I found it the best way to remember what Memorial Day is all about. Every story really touched me. I am not sure how this war will change Afghanistan, but we already know what happened when we neglected it. "Thank you" seems so inadequate, so that means we need to make sure soldiers and their families get taken care of by all of us. We ask a lot of them. They pay the price for our security. We cannot take them for granted. BTW the people who did the embed story with the 101st did a great job, as well. Hopefully many Americans will see this.

I can see where Armyhoss is coming from regarding the inane comments. Forgive them because they probably watch a lot of war movies or play video war games and they don't know the terrain your troops are up against and there are villages that they can't see in those mountains. My granddaughter's husband is in the 101st 327th I.R. and he's a husband and father to my 3 beautiful great granddaughters. I pray for his safety everyday and for all the troops serving in Afghanistan that they all come home safely. May God watch over you and our troops and I pray for this war to end soon. God Bless you all and God be with you all.

Thank you Laura, 60 Minutes, and CBS news for this eye opening report. I would like to see stories like this EVERY night with the evening news. We are at war: why is there not more coverage? To Capt. Hintz, you are a HERO and not a failure. To the Mighty Screaming Eagles of the 101st Airborne, you have helped to shape American history for the better for many decades now. I am not in the least surprised that you are leading us once more in the direction of peace. Thank you simply is not enough for all that you do on a daily basis. I am able to enjoy my freedom and way of life because of the sacrifices made by brave men and women such as yourselves. May God bless you and keep you safe. To Armyhoss, love and respect sent your way - the job of a medic has to be one of the most difficult. Thank you for all that you do for our wounded Warriors. 101st, you are truly the very best that America has to offer! Thank you, thank you, thank you! You're all in my prayers!

This is the first story I have watched on the war in Afghanistan since my son deployed over two months ago. I have always been realistic about what he would face, so I wake each morning with an ache in my heart and unending anxiety for him. He is at one of the 50 COPs Lara refers to in her story. I can only hope that he is fortunate enough to have someone like CPt Hintz commanding him. Cpt Hintz looks like he carries the weight of the world on his shoulders. Thank you Lara for a story that supports our family members who chose in a time of war to be infantrymen, boots on the ground soldiers who are fighting an enemy which has no conscience or compassion for anyone including their own countrymen. We can only hope that politicians will not play games with the lives of our soldiers and will just let them do what they need to do to destroy the Taliban and al-Qaida...how did we ever let this world get to this point.

Reading some of these comments has me a little sad and a little upset...I personally think the reporter did a good job with the peice. My husband is part of the 101st Airborne divsion that is over there fighting and I know I worry everyday for his safety. Its the commanders and leaders job to make sure every soldier makes it home to their family so I can see how he would view losing one of his soldiers as a failure. My heart goes out to all our soldiers and their families. Stay as safe as you guys can over there and we'll see you when you return.

A friend of mine sent me the link to this story. I am so glad he did. He served in Iraq and we both now work for an engineering/construction firm in it's Government group supporting LOGCAPIV in the North. I recognized the names of the bases where this was filmed. All I can say is THANK YOU to ALL the soldiers for their selfless service. It makes me want to work that much harder. To all the naysayers wrote comments about this clip - SHAME ON YOU. Just be glad the soldiers are giving you the right to be idiots. Thank you again Soldiers!!!

No one back home doubts the job you are doing. Back here in the states there is little news on what is happening in Afghanistan. For the last week all that the major news networks are reporting on is how a few bad apples in the army were killing Afghans for sport. That makes you all look like gun toting killers, and that has really made me angry. I too am glad to see this report by Lara. Everyone needs to be made aware of the tough job you have. But at the same time that you are doing your job there though, I have read reports that commanders on the ground have being asking for more air strikes, but are being refused. Don't blame the ones who care about your safety, for being angry when we see the conditions that you are all in. We just want the job done with as few losses of lfe as possible. Please don't ever think we are not grateful for your service. All of us whether we agree with the war or not, know that you have the toughest job on earth. And we all, Thank You!
