First of all:I believe that you should not ask people that are struggling financially to donate.

There are a gillion millionaires and successful professional people out there that could easily donate far more than enough to fund this horrible disease.

Secondly, I firmly believe that there already is a cure indeed, however, the medical industry on a whole is profiting far to much to want to put an end to this wretched suffering that we are going through, they are making to much money from our illnesses.....how sad that our families have to suffer huge losses because of greedy self centered sobs.

The medical discoveries have been jumping by leaps and bounds with all that care and I think its time that the crooks stop using our losses as just a pawn in their money game.

Respectfully and Sincerely wishing this would end.

My deepest condolences to all of those who have suffered losses of loved ones as well.

Thank you for your time.

Good Afternoon Ms. Couric

Thank you so much for your work in the fight against colon cancer. My mother lost her fight with the disease at the age of 72.

In August of 2009, four months prior to my 50th birthday, I had a virtual colonoscopy. Thankfully, I did not have any signs of the cancer that had shortened my mother?s life.

Unbelievably, Cigna Insurance has continuously denied my claim for the procedure. Both the doctor and I have provided information they have requested multiple times. I believe they continue to ask for the same additional information again and again hoping I will accept their denial of such an important screening procedure.

As we all Stand Up 2 Cancer, I feel that it is very important that our health care providers and insurance providers are part of this important battle.

Thanks again for bringing out a personal part of your life that has helped so many.

Hi Katie,
After hearing about the special program "Standing Up to Cancer" that you and the other network news anchors participated in, I thought you might be interested in a letter I sent to Bill McClellan of the St. Louis Post Dispatch recently. He immediatly emailed me, and wanted to speak with my brother who was diagonosed with cancer. I called it... "A Nice Story"

Dear Bill,
I wanted to write to you about a nice event I witnessed last night, at a local high school, because I know how much you seem to like a good story, and I often enjoy reading your column about "regular" people and their lives.
This "event" took place last night at Lindbergh High School. I know what you're thinking... another Friday night football story. Not exactly. Its about what would normally be part, of a Friday night football game... The Marching Band.
Last night's event was "only" about the Marching Band. In fact the evening's event was titled "Pasadena Night".
Why, you may ask? As you may already know The Lindbergh High School Band has been chosen to participate and march in the Coveted 2011 Rosebowl Parade in Pasadena California January 1st. This of course is an exceptional honor for the band, its instructors, and the parents. Its the Second time in five years they have been chosen! A very rare honor .
Last night was like a big "Pep" rally for the band, with some local dignitaries, the President of the Rose Bowl Parade Jeffrey Throop and his wife Angel, some local restaurants that gave out samples, sales of an array of items, and a raffle for a new car. All this to help promote the band which through their own efforts and fundraising has to cover the $400,000 cost of their trip to California.
Lots of excitement was in the air with the stands full of cheering fans, waving flags and banners for a High School Marching Band, not the usual Friday night fare. The band played and marched along with the girls of the color guard; dancing and waving flags with the precision that won them the honor to go to Pasadena. The program ended with the band gathered close to their fans in a more intimate way (without instruments) and sang quietly the "The Lindbergh Alma Mater". It was very touching, and it felt like being in a scene from a Hollywood movie.
In these days of so much bad news, the wars, the economy, and crime, it was so refreshing and uplifting to witness something that could have been from Norman Rockwell painting, in a seemingly better time in our history, but guess what..... it still exists!
Thats not all there is to this story. Bob Spiegelman the Band Director, who has worked with the Lindbergh High School Band for Eighteen Years, has worked tirelessly to make it and previous bands (which boasts some Two Hundred and Fifty students,) one of the best if not "The Best" in the nation at a high school that never had any recogniton before he came to Lindberg. He's the real life "Mr. Holland" you may rememeber from the movie Mr.Holland's Opus.
O.K. so he's pretty good. He and his staff are extremely devoted to those kids, but there's one more thing. Last winter Bob was diagnosed with Cancer. He's only in his early 50's and at the height of his accomplished career. Needless to say it was quite a blow when he got the news. Of course there were all the usual questions. How bad was it, what are his chances of survival, and yes what about his ablility to direct the band? Afterall they were headed to the Rosebowl! As he put it last night when he spoke, its the "Superbowl" of Marching Band. Only a dozen bands across the country and two International bands are chosen each year, out of thousands of applicants!
I'm happy to say that Bob forged ahead, took his "Chemo" treatments and with the support of family, friends, and the staff of Lindberg High School, the band will be headed to Pasadena to perform before millions of fans here and around the world.
We are so proud of the Band, the staff, the parents, and Bob.
By the way.... I'm his brother

Ron Spiegelman

Katie, my father was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in 2009 and has been getting treatment at Johns Hopkins Medical Center and is still fighting. We recently learned of a recurrence of the cancer on the day the show on the Dream Team aired. After several emails, we found out the one of the clinical trials that is being funded by Stand Up 2 Cancer is being held at Hopkins. I have emailed the Dream Team and spoke to the doctor here at Hopkins that is the lead and can possibliy save my fathers life in this trial, but we are getting deferred to other physicians and denied treatment in the trial.

My father is still alive and ready to Stand Up 2 Cancer, but is being denied the opportunity by the prinicple investigator. In the 6 months they have given him to live, he could be fighting!! CAN YOU HELP US????

My father is one of the reasons this new model was developed, funded and can be put to work!!

Dear Katie
Thank you for your wonderful work you are doing for all cancers . I also lost my sister Joan to cancer on June the 16th 1994. Last Christmas I invited children adults from all over the world to take part in a unique fundraising event. I invited them to remember their loved ones and make a STAR in their memory . I recieved over 5000 STARS from accross the world . All stars were decorated on the walls and on a giant christmas tree in Ballyseedy garden centre in Tralee county Kerry Ireland. I made a promise to Joan before she passed away 15 tears ago to do something special in her memory and help cancer sufferes and there families. I fullfilled it . I am offering you this idea to help raise funds for your cancer organization. The money I recieved went back for cancer care. I am doing it this year again and hopeing to recieve a million stars My story is on you tube under STARS FOR LIFE courtesy of R.T.E. Thank you Katie and god bless.

Ms. Craig:

I am communicating with you on behalf of my dear friend Tania Millan
who has stage 4 pancreatic cancer and who has not responded to just gemcitamin treatment. She has now stopped treatment all together and needs to reach a trial before it is too late. She is fine at the moment.

I was very encouraged by your piece on glutamine trial at University of Pennsylvania with Dr. Craig Thompson. I think my friend may be a candidate for this treatment.

Thank you for your consistant involvement with gastro-intestinal cancer.

Also thank you for facilitating this type of communication.

Katie, please do a show on the truly deadliest cancer of all cancers and that is Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. The children who are the unfrortunate one's to get this diagnosis have no chance of survival. The average lenght of time to live is about 9-12 months. This cancer is never even mentioned in a public forum and is mostly ignored by all.
Please point out there is hardly any funding for this cancer and our children suffer the most horrific death you can imagine. They do not get a chance to grow up and experience what we all take for granted.Thank you if you can help get the truth out about the truely deadliest of all cancers, with out a treatment for survival. This diagnosis is a death sentence to our children.Thank you,Garett age 4 diagnosed May 15,2010 would speak for himself if he could.

you know how they used to show an MRI machine suspending a monkey wrench in the center of its powerful magnetic field?

do you remember someone had an idea to use just the magnet to suspend a small wireless camera in the center of the magnetic field and have an x/y platform that could move the patient around while the camera stand still and maneuver it threw the Colon as a more non invasive way of examining colons

i would build it myself but i was disconnected from research when i missed out on highschool and booted off my expencive insurance.
