One thing that I see as a problem it the inability for Jo Public to visualize the problems associated with stripping the rain forests making it hard to personalize the cause. The first thing to come to mind is developing a way to connect people to the trees. An example is "Save a tree-Plant a tree" which would encourage one to plant a tree in their own community for every tree saved elsewhere.
Another problem is the failure of people to realize that big business is bad business. It is touted as efficiency in action but fails the environment, the economy and the consumer. No one connects this to ecology in a meaningful way. What we have is ideology without visualization. However I don't see quick solutions for this.
