Extra: Border Control

May 2, 2010 5:00 PM

"The U.S. has never had control of its southern borders." That's according to Professor David FitzGerald, Associate Director of the Center for Comparative Immigration Studies at UC San Diego.

I say build a wall along the border so grand in size and form that it is a new wonder of the world! I am talking about a wall that will take thousands of labors decades to complete. Let the Mexicans build it and a wall along only half the border will keep them out!

Simple way to end it overnight:

Check employers. Check all businesses, randomly and frequently. No need for a fence or profling, just random frequent checks. And don't give me any 4th amendmant whine, the same laws that enable the "Health Department" to go in any business allows Da Fuzz to check them out also.

No jobs, illegals leave and there's no "Underground Community" for the other criminals (drug dealers, gang members, possibly terrorists) to hide among.

The lack of illegals alone, we'd have many more jobs than "Unemployed/Underemployed". Granted lousy ones, but only so because of the terribly low wages and unsafe conditions enabled by the "Illegal" aspect of it. Remove the illegals, workers can demand (or not working there will be a real threat again) a sane wage and basic safety/automation. Anyone who was a kid in the 70s wonder why we don't have "Robotic Farms" that an "Engineer or even an electronics enthusiast can earn a good living and enjoy the outdoors"? Illegal immigrants are cheaper and therefore they crippled the progress.

Along the way, let's also call for "Tariffs and Trade barriers" and at the very least for Obama to honor his promise to "End tax breaks and subsidies to companies that export jobs." Isn't it an obscenity that a company was allowed to cheat a US worker out of a job making shoes so the work could be done by a barefoot 6 year old girl chained to a post in the floor of a factory that could catch fire any day? And even worse, that despite the "Cheap" wages and lack of "Health/safety" codes often these operations cost MORE? More because of "Tea Money" (Bribery) to a line of petty officials, piracy both intellectual and non, and the cost of transport alone? But then they get paid from the economy they steal from to ensure a profit?

The root problem is that our "Rich Elite" are stealing from us. What they do is not business, it is theft, perhaps even treason. They stagnate wages, import illegal "Scabs", send jobs overseas and then shriek and threaten the government for our tax money or debts in our names.

The effort to control the border has been very effective where it has been implemented. The problem is that the concentrated border enforcement is only along parts of the border. The fact that migrants are now forced to cross in remote areas shows that the fence works. If the fence and concentrated border enforcement extended along the whole border, overall crossings would be drastically reduced, just as they have in the city areas where there is a fence and concentrated enforcement.
