Hey mates,
I think some of you are doing a real confusion btw US Snus and Swedish Snus !!
The american snus is a low quality copy of the swedish snus. The american Snus is just a classic "spitting "cowboy" tobaco in a bag, tryin to copy the design and aspect of the Swedish "portions". The swedish snus is also availabe on raw version, means without the bag. The BIGGEST difference btw US and Swedish version is the making !! The swedish snus is cooked few days with different naturel nutriments and salt who killed in the process most of the elements who could do decease, also the swedish snus is "cleaned" in a Pasteurisation process to preserve taste of tobaco/nicotine but kill also dangerous bacteries wich AMERICAN SNUS Manufacture don't do !!!!!
Then last process is to keep natural flavour or mixing snus with aroma, like Bergamot, liquerice etc...
I quited smoking 4 years ago, and i don't smoke anymore. I am using swedish snus around 4 or 5 times per day. I saved money, i saved my heart, my brain, ly throat and my lungs. The only things i doing more, to protect mouth from "potential" decease (it haven't been prooved in sweden than snus could cause this), but i take care much more about my teeth, i clean 3 times per day my teeth with regular toothpaste and using also mouthwash (like "li*t**ine"). My teeth are very white, mouth skin is fine. Swedish snus is much better for your health than American Snus who is just a cheap low quality tobaco in a bag !

I smoked for 20 years and used snus to stop (sometimes 2 pouches at once oops, 1 or 2 cans of C*m*l snus a day). I didnt smoke for 2 weeks and was so proud of myself. Then one day, lets just say, I got very stressed and smoked. I'm now using both, thats just great!!. However, I smoked a pack or more a day and now I smoke 3-5 a day and less than a can of snus. I am on my way back to stopping smoking again with snus. I made this post to warn everyone not to be stupid like me and get hooked on BOTH. Snus is highly addictive especially to smokers. I have tried everythign there is to stop smoking, except the patch (scares me) but smoking doesn't that makes sense. I am on my way back to not smoking again with snus. I love and hate snus. SNus made the crowns of my teeth yellow/browm(where your gumline starts) more than 20 years of smoking in 5 months. There may also be a link to pancreatic cancer and Snus. Heavy snus usse is like slowly rubbing a fine grit sandpaper on your gums and inside your lip. Snus will also make your teeth more sensitive. I htink im going to now use the patch but im scared i may pop a snus while using the patch. Any comments on patch with snus would be nice.
1. Don't get hooked on both
2. Brush your teeth 2x a day with a whitening toothpaste and as many times as possible (at least 2 more times) with a less abrasive paste. FLOSS too and use mouthwash
3. Snus is just about as expensive as smoking. Some companies charged $1.99 for trial and $5 for retail whisch is only 3 more pouches.
4. I believe Snus to be 95% safer than smoking (if you don't like your teeth)
4. when peopel see you with that snus packed under your upper lip it ISNT too attractive. almost makes you look like your missing teeth completely.
5. until your body gets used to snus expect some smelly smelly poo poo

I used snus to quit smoking. It worked like a charm and i smoked for almost 20 years, never once trying to quit, until that point. Now ive reduced my snus intake to a bare minimum too. I might never be able to quit nicotine completly but i have significantly improved my health and chances of not getting some type of cancer and that - whichever way you cut it - is not a bad thing. Also my house/clothes/car/breath doesnt stink anymore. I remember thinking non-smokers where a miserable bunch, always complaining about the smell etc.. Lets just say im gonna be needing some salt so i can chew down my hat on that one. P.S. Single guys will also notice a marked improvement on their ability to get even more p..ntang than before. I rest my case. :)

btw all SNUS doesnt come in handy little bags. there are snus without bags and that snus is far superior in both taste and strength and also alot cheaper per gram than the "bag" SNUS.

Snus is not made for quit smoking, thats a fact. a majority of people that are using snus have never been addicted to cigarettes. however, many can stop smoking using snus, though you should all know that smoke, all kinds of smoke gives you cancer and other deseases, it doesnt matter if you smoke a palm leaf or tobacco you will get deseases no matter what you are smoking. and everyone should be aware of that nicotine is a poison, its used for spraying crops to prevent and kill insects, so its impossible to use nicotine in a 100% healthy way, but its possible to reduce the harmfull effects by not inhale combusted materials. and yes i do agree with some posts here, its not the first time 60minutes havnt got all the facts straight before sending their show.

As a swedish snuser and former smoker, I can tell you this. Snus has it's pros and cons.

Snus is a really nice taste, but the first time it can seem a bit strange. And there are several different brands which has own aromas. It's nice to change in between. There are even quite fruity ones.

It is looked upon as being quite manly to snus. But there are incredibly many girls doing it to. Because they care about their looks and snus doesn't make your face grow old as cigarettes does.

Snus brings people together, it's nice to share in between of friends and coworkers. But it usually doesn't bring people in to casual discussions like cigarettes and alcohol can.

It can make your teeth a bit brown and your breath might have a bit of scent, but I have never had any problems with the ladies. Maybe it disguises my other regular awful breath! But dont try kissing someone who is not used to the taste just after snusing.

Many of the snus-packages has a small compartment in the lid for putting away used pouches. It is really convenient when there is no trash bin around. You really don't bother anyone which I think smoking and chewing bubble gum does.

A good tip when buying snus is to buy 10-packs and keep them in the fridge or freezer. Otherwise it dries out.

It really raises the quality of life and it makes you feel awesome.... But I honestly must say that it is really addictive and too much snusing can make your gum and lip a bit sore. Quitting snusing is probably as difficult as quitting any other bad habit.

The "l?s" ("loose") snus is not packed in pouches and requires a bit of technique, and I would recommend it to beginners.

Hello,

I am from Sweden and know a LOT about snus.

The program about Snus(Originally from Sweden) was VERY misleading:

* Snus is healthier than smoking: Of course. ANYTHING is healthier than smoking! There are even studies telling that Weed is healthier than Smoking cigarretes!

* No studies says that Snus is dangerous: And NO studies says that Snus is completely Safe. Sweden WANTS to sell their product all over the world so they won't tell All the truth. How many years did it take BEFORE the Unites States told the world that Smoking cigarrettes WAS dangerous??

* The Swedes smokes Less cigarrettes in the world: True. But this has NOTHING to do with snus. The Swedish government And organisations had been informing the Swedish people to stope smoking for Many years now. Anti-smoking campains in televsion and schools. Prohibition of advertise about tobaco/cigarrettes in ANY media. In Sweden you are NOT allowed to smoke in public areas like restautants or Night Clubs!

* Swedish Doctors Recommend people to use Snus to stop smoking?! hahahaha PLEASE, tell me the name of ANY Swedish doctor that says so. Then he will NOT be a doctor in Sweden No more.

I have Always loved 60 minutes for its seriosity and rightfulness... The Tobacco industri are celebrating all over the world again! Thanks 60 Minutes!

It's sick how much better it is to use SNUS instead of SMOKING.

Take aside that with SNUS you have a 90% less risk of getting cancer.

What are we left with now...? ALOT!

When you drive a car and smoke, how many hands are you using? 1?
How many hands are you using while having a SNUS under your lip? 2!

I haven't checked any information or statistics about how much better a driver you are with 2 hands then 1. But I bet it' alot.

Smoking while driving is like beeing on the phone almost. That's not good for you or anyone else on the road. "I killed a guy today because I was smoking and couldn't drive proper".

I'm using SNUS and all my friends are standing next to me. I better walk away so they don't get cancer just by standing close to me...

or do I? NO!

I better change clothes now because I just took a SNUS and they smell bad...

or do I? NO!

I'm going to be sitting at work, school, dinner, church, my car, etc. for over 1 hour & I can't last that long without a SNUS. I need to get out of here...

or do I? NO!

This can go on and on. There is just no stoping when it comes to how much better it is to use SNUS then SMOKING.

My adive to all you YAANKS, try quit smoking and trade it for snus. Atleast give it a try! It have helped so many swedish ppl. I am one of them.

Kind regards,
Joakim

First, I would like to thank CBS for airing this segment tonight. While I may have chosen another Swedish snus user to represent the snus using community on whole, at least he was using Swedish snus.

I smoked 2.5 packs/day of Camel Light Wides for 20 years, and for the last 10 years of my smoking life...I was trying to quit. I've tried it all, nicotine gum, the patch, hypnosis, herbal supplements, you name it and I've tried it. None of them worked. One day I walked into a store to purchase a pack of smokes, and I saw an advertisement for Camel SNUS. Not knowing what it was, I asked the cashier and he wasn't much help, so of course I went home and looked it up on the net. Much to my amazement, there was this entire world of snus out there.

I read for hours and hours about how this product was 98% safer than smoking, and how it was far superior to any of the American snus brands. I mean, hey the Swedes invented this stuff over 200 yrs ago, they know how to do it. I read clinical study after clinical study and the result was always the same. Swedish snus has the lowest levels of TSNA's (tobacco specific nitrosamines), which are the carcinogens found in tobacco. There are more TSNA's in bacon than in pasteurized Swedish snus and I eat bacon, so why not try this to quit smoking.

Swedish snus is steam pasteurized, which kills the TSNA's, while American dip and most other moist tobaccos and even cigarette tobacco isn't. American tobacco, dip, chew and cigarette tobacco is fermented which does NOT kill the TSNA's. Which is the reason American smokeless companies rotate their stock so quickly in the the stores...the TSNA levels continue to grow to unhealthy levels after a certain amount of time. Remember, TSNA's are what cause cancer in tobacco users.

I made an order from Sweden, and from the very first portion (pouch)of Swedish snus until now I haven't smoked. That was over a year ago too, and for you smokers out there...I can't tell you how easy it was to put the smokes down. The real story here is why haven't the American companies come out with something like this sooner?? MONEY, and money is also the reason they make an inferior snus. It has far too little nicotine in it to keep one from craving. Side note, the kid in the show tonight was using Swedish snus, BUT he was using mini portions which are much smaller and have less nicotine in them. For someone to quit smoking, they have to use regular sized portions and extra strong Swedish snus to quell the cravings. The fact that Swedish snus comes in different strengths and over 100 flavors and styles is yet another point of it's superiority. You can even buy Swedish snus with NO nicotine or tobacco at all. Someone that wanted to get off nicotine altogether, could use a step down program.

There are 45 million smokers in the U.S, and how many of them would like to quit...I'll bet at least a third, easily. This is a product that can and will help them become healthier Americans. The FDA needs to grant this product MRT (Modified Risk Tobacco) status so that Swedish snus manufacturers, importers and distributors can advertise the fact that it IS in fact 98% safer than smoking! Talk about reducing health care costs....can you imagine half of America quitting smoking??

Nicotine in gum is the safest method, and non-carcinogenic. If we really wanted to save people, we would subsidize nicotine gum below the cost of cigarettes.

Using SNUS is superior to smoking, and the e-cigarette is as good as gum, but $cost$ is the key. People of means use stop smoking methods because they can afford them. The poor can't and never have.
