Three years ago I was helping two individuals with a technology they developed. One was an Academy Award winner and the other an Emmy winner. The technology involved something they called 4D. They were going to use it for making movies however we came up with a way of identifying IEDs on the roads. Tried contacting the U.S. Army, Our local congressman, Capital Hill, the Defense Department, etc. Just got the runaround for two months. Nobody seemed interested. The idea was fly a helicopter with a special mounted camera with the software along the route that had been cleared. Then do the same thing the following day before the vehicles took off. The camera would be able to compare images and if a blade of grass grew a 1/4" or the dirt was disturbed or a trip wire buried it would stand out like a sore thumb using this 4D technology.

As I watched Mr. Pitts' story about the IED's on 60 minutes, I was appalled at the comment he made to one of the soldiers. He actually asked the soldier if he felt like "they got their butts kicked" because the IED they were on a mission to destroy had taken out a lead vehicle in their squad and injured all three soldiers in the vehicle. What a horrible comment to make to someone who is in a foreign country, who is following orders of his superiors and trying to make life better for other human beings. My prayers and sympathies are with families of fallen soldiers who may have heard this comment and felt as I did. Consideration of others' feelings should always be held above the desire for higher ratings and I feel that this reporter stepped over the line in his comments. I have always loved to watch 60 Minutes because the stories are always so interesting. This story has changed my opinion considerably.

What about the Air Force EOD Personnel. I know people do not think about the Air Force being in the ground fight but, we are every day working the IED issue.
