I have both read the book and watched the movie and I was moved I think the book is a good way to talk to our children about what can be a difficult subject to talk about. abuse is difficult enough but to have the character experience from her own parents.... i love both the movie and the book if this movie was based off a true story i would love to know what became of precious

This is a wonderful interview. I saw the movie last week. I was unable to speak for almost 30 minutes. My mind and soul was full. I want all social workers, teachers, anyone who work with children to see this movie. We need not to just hear a child; we need to really HEAR a child when they speak to us. I work in special education with children who have been through so much.

Thank you, Sapphire for writing the novel PUSH and allowing it to be made into a movie.

Katie...THANK YOU for holding this interview! What a lovely conversation. I saw the film last weekend and was moved like I've never been before in watching a film. So it was wonderful to witness further discussion on the film, Precious and Saphire's original book, "Push". After watching this...I think I want to see it again :)
Thank you again!!!

Thank you Katie and Sapphire for a truly wonderful conversation! Over the years I have come to know the impact of Sapphire's PUSH on the hearts and minds of teen readers over the years who have adopted this book as their very own. There are few books that especially, urban youth have held so dear. I have been with audiences in NY Public Library spaces where teens, young men and young women have been anxious to meet and speak with Sapphire. Those conversations were amazing and transformative! I also recall being amazed when Sapphire mentioned how many languages this book has been translated into! I can hardly wait to see PRECIOUS this weekend. Again, thank you both.

Ah, I checked the "Push" book out at the Los Angeles Library back in 1996; however, had forgotton about the book until I saw the cover at the beginning of this interview. While the author Sapphire was talking with Katie did the story line come back to memory. What a compelling story and a definite page turning. Looking forward to the movie.

I read the book and could not put it down; nor could I stop crying for hours and days. I still cry at just thinking of this compelling story. Thank you, Sapphire for your incredible work. I will see the movie.

Great interview Katie. Love to see the in depth conversations about interesting topics. Also liked the CBS Sunday Morning piece that gave information about all the people involved in getting this book to the screen. We hear so much about Tyler Perry and Oprah, but I wanted to know more about Sapphire. Impressive!
