Of the rich, for the rich and by the rich!
Very few of the rich ever made anything, except money, on the backs of other people's inventive genius.
Read Albert Einstein's essay: "Why Socialism".

Diller is just another old, yesterday's news rich white man who thinks yesterday's business models - the ones that caused our current problems BTW, are still valid.

He's a fool, just like Murdoch.

People will not pay for one time content. People will not pay for sports scores. People will not pay for news. That is just the way it is.....

The one thing stopping the wealthy from taking total control of the US is the internet.
We saw how important the internet was when Iran shut it down during the protests.
The internet allows people to exchange unfiltered and uncensored news and opinions which is bad for a dictatorship.
In the US the wealthy simply use their money to get what they want instead of armed mercenaries.
Did I say "their money"?
I meant OUR MONEY.
Why do you think GW Bush did away with the laws protecting the Internet?

I heard the cable companies have been asking for rate increases for decades and promising improvements to the infrastructure to get higher speeds. They have gotten the increases, (giving themselves bonuses?) but the improvements have been left behind.

#1) We already pay for the Internet as well as taxes for the Internet.
#2) I remember when "Pay Television" was truly pay television no commercials or at least few - I never agreed to pay for hours of info-mercials when the "Content" they advertise to get you to buy - is that the channels are 24/7 they mention that 1/4 of the content is junk - very misleading and illegal in my opinion.
#3) The bulk of ALL Content is paid for by advertising. TV, Newspaper, magazines, and so on. Premium Content always has had an extra charge already -Movie Theater's, Disneyland, Movie Channels, Xbox Live & Porn.

I respect Barry more than anyone - but he has missed the boat on this one - however he is smart enough to convince the powers that be to pass some bogus law so that Everyone has to pay for "Two girls and a cup" (Not Worth a Cent)

At least (R)Ted Stevens is now in Jail - instead of being in charge of E-Commerce - when he thinks the internet is a series of TUBES- Look it up - Truly Sad but true. or (R)Mark Foley in charge of underage sexual abuse while he propositions his underage male intern.

As for the early years..Al Gore Invented the internet- NOT! - Put to use by the Military back in 1960's - The NIC cards and interface... designed by Xerox in the 60's - Xerox Also created Windows and the mouse. He should have worked for Xerox back then and maybe they wouldn't have 'GAVE AWAY' their 'Content' to people like Steve Jobs/Microsoft. Xerox would own the world.

As for the illegal Downloads of the past, forget about it. It is Ok to tape a live radio broadcast or TV on VCR tape cause the quality isn't "Good" enough to concern them. Now we have distribution through itunes, XM/Sirus Radio or netflix - If it wasn't for Napster, Kazaa or File Sharing Geeks - Apple stock would not be doing so good. All patriots where labeled Traitors at one point- Our Founding Fathers, Harriet Tubman, Henry Ford or even Green Day & Metallica . The illegal Downloads paved the way for evolution of the distribution of content, & Steve Jobs was smart enough to do it right when it came to music no different than Jeff Bezos on the distribution of books even Pierre M. Omidyar on the distribution of the stuff in your garage. The Music Industry has always been corrupt.... NOT PAYING the artists for THIER CONTENT -(Too many to name)- It had to change. Look at eBay uping their fees and running their company for their share holders instead of their clients - stocks way down just waiting for Google to put them out of their Misery. Evn back to Xerox running their company for their shareholders instead of their clients - gave away all that technology because it didn't look good on the books.

Cater to your clients instead of raping your clients on the behalf of the shareholders and your company will be successful.

Sorry it had to be said

C'mon people, we have the power to make it ALL FREE!
They NEED for us to watch!
They should PAY US for the privilege of hooking up advertising feeds into our homes & businesses!
You know it's all about advertising!
If we refuse to pay, they will insist we watch for FREE just so that they can sell advertising time to Coke, cars, beer etc...
Put your foot down and cable & internet will all be FREE!
We just need to stick together!

That sounds just fine Mr. Diller, start charging for your content and you'll find out just how valuable it is.

yes barry ... it was the tech people who created it ... and it will morons like you who will exploit/ruin it ... all for the monetary gains of capitalist wh0res like yourself.

let's turn the internet into another qvc ... utilizing every human behavioural manipulative technique in order to get people to hand their money over to you for things they really don't need.

sounds like a splendid idea!

Diller is delusional. He never did really understand the community aspect of the internet. Of course people will pay for content that has multiple platforms, like music or video. But no one is going to pay to use a website like his lame travel sites. Why? Because the minute he starts to charge, someone smarter with a better site, will launch their version and that will be free. He still thinks he's operating in Hollywood where it costs millions to launch a product like a movie or a CD. But online any yahoo with a computer and some basic programming knowledge can build a site and attract sales, distribution, marketing, etc. to promote it and sell it. He's old school trying to operate in a new economy. He'll be replaced very soon with someone much smarter.
