If you read all that has been said about Philip Markoff from an early age you will see red flags along the way. His mother worked in a casino. He started gambling at an early age and obviously not discouraged by his mother. Also, his biologic father, Richard Markoff, a dentist, chose Philip's brother to live with him and left him with his mother when they divorced(Philip was a toddler). He may have sensed rejection by his father at an early age. No one has mentioned if he had any relationship with his Dad. Perhaps his drive to become a doctor was to impress his Dad.
According to what I have read so far his mother didn't appear to have a college degree or interest in any profession-that she was a stay-at-home Mom for years. Her jobs were fairly menial-selling cigarettes and aspirin at a kiosk at a casino, doing crafts, quilting, etc. I wonder if she's a depressed person for having so little ambition in life. We're not getting the whole picture of his family life, his relationship with his mother, etc.
Friends revealed that if he lost at gambling(as in poker) he would get very angry-that he was always intent on winning instead of having fun. That he was awkward in social situations not a good trait for a future doctor.
Then the incident where he pinned and his female friend against the wall in an unwanted sexual aggression, alarming her. His lab partner in Med. School said he was "disturbed", that he would sit at the lab counter and not say anything for long periods. It's also odd that his parents didn't help him with med. school expenses, esp. since his Dad was a dentist whose salary should have been good.
I think besides a sociopath he's a misongynist. His user ID was "sexaddict" which was telling. It appears that he had an addictive personality from a young age.
He is yet another example of a troubled person where the red flags are going up left and right and no one acknowledged he needed help. Just like the Fort Hood shootings where Hasan was raising flags for YEARS. Both of these ill men were in the medical profession!! Is that scary or what? And Megan McAllister, a clueless, co-dependent,social climber, with expensive taste, when her fiance was in serious debt, is still planning on being a doctor. She had to have known that he travelled to the casino 19 times as they lived together. A huge red flag!! Do you want someone who is that dumb to be your doctor?
We need to be assertive when we see troubled behavior on someone's part before they commit such awful crimes. Mental illness cannot be ignored. Look what it can cause if not addressed and treated!

Guilty as charged. A slam dunk case. Too bad they don't have the death penalty in this state because if there there ever was, Markhoff would easily qualify in the top ranks. He deserves to rot in jail for the rewt of his natural life. I predict that he'll plead guilty when he gets to trial. he has no other choice. There's no viable defence.

These people, Markoff & his victims, do not seem to have had a moral code by which to live by. Money was the paramount factor for the girls who needed it and although Markoff was well on his way to making it as a doctor, he gambled his future away at casinos and put himself in debt. The "dark side" of his life was his reality. His parents divorce propelled him to succeed in order to be noticed and loved which his parents did not do at all.

The prospect of eventually getting married only to have a boring life as a doctor was the driving force for Markoff to "kill for thrills" which is a common pursuit for todays youth.

I hope and pray he truly pays for his crime and that his parents find the time to ask God for forgivness for what they did to his mind becaused they really screwed him up by ignoring him as a kid.

It both saddens me and makes me angry. This guy had a start in life most of us dream of. Lost of people like myself work our knuckles to the bone to try to make something of ourself for our special someone and children. To provide a better life for them. This guy had it at his finger tips and threw it all away. This sounds crazy but he should have gotten his kicks in a non-violent secret way without hurting anyone. He could have done that and still have achieved something of his life. WHY KILL SOMEONE. He threw a life away I would have love to have been able to have, WHAT A WASTE.....

Poor Julissa's mom...i felt bad for her when they showed her alone with dog looking at birds. What pain she is probably going through knowing that her daughter died to that man. And why hasn't Markoff's ex-fiancee completely ruled out future contact with him. Hmmm...maybe in extreme denial...or her elevator doesn't go completely to top. Since this episode was pretty much a reshowing of their previous episode (on same topic) but with maybe only 30% new footage, I will rate this episode a 4 out of 10 (1 point for new update, although there really is no new update...and 3 for Cocca the cute dog in episode).

I hope every teenager sees this and their family tells them of the sad fates of people with such risky behavior. Not saying she deserved this, but, if I remember right, she hired him, a total stranger, went to a hotel room for sexual stuff, etc.

Sad for him? ***? He also has a profile on lesbians.com? He might have not been a pervert..just looking for anyone to rob and/or kill. His lawyer and/or family need to remove his kinky profiles.
