See all 163 CommentsSteve Kroft, you're right. Americans may be weary. After all, the Pres has tackled some major issues in just eight short months--possibly more than the previous seven administrations attempted during their entire terms--but just because that frightens people doesn't mean we shouldn't try.
Change (Who moved my cheese?) is the hardest thing for people to accept. We only need to look at ourselves and the people around us for proof. If we try to coddle people into reform or wait until the majority of Americans are ready, a new millenia will have come and gone. People will always be afraid of what they don't know, esp as they get older. Courage and willingness are the true beauty of youth. That's why we draft men at 18 and have age limits for new FBI and DEA agents.
The president is simply doing what he said he would do if he were electedm which may be a new concept for many Americans. Oh well, that's what change is. While I may not agree with everything he's doing, I absolutely applaud Pres Obama's courage and willingness to address these tough issues head on despite the fear-filled rhetoric. That's how change happens. The fact that he also does it w/o yelling, cheating on his wife, falling down stairs or sounding like a simpleton makes it even better. Proof that he's focused on people, not his power.
I appreciate the pres. for (finally) delving so deeply into this issue after previous older, more-experienced presidents (since Pres Johnson estab Medicare in '65) would not. I, like the Pres, believe this administration will pass some sort of reformed health care plan. It won't contain everything he wanted, but that's okay. He just wants to do what's best for the American people. And in return, we'll cry about this reformed/moved *cheese* for years to come. God bless us!
