If the charge against Chiquita is ?aiding terrorist?, has it occurred to anyone that what Chiquita did in Columbia is essentially the same thing our government does in third-world countries? Whether through the U.N., the IMF or direct humanitarian aid, many of our tax dollars wind up in the hands of oppressive dictators who use the funds to enrich themselves and even commit terrorist acts against their own populations. Or what about the millions of dollars in humanitarian aid we sent to the Soviet Union in the 1960?s while they were funding the North Vietnamese army? If the rebels in Columbia made a ledger entry showing the Chiquita money was spent on food and clothing instead of weapons, would that make any difference?
