Hi Andy-- enjoyed your segment as always People Carrying Stuff. Here's one of my poems apro pos.

From The Tales I Tell my Grandchildren: Our Thin Books

I watch them go off to school, leaning
forward against their burdens of books in backpacks
like hikers toiling upward on a mountain trail.

It wasn?t like that in the olden days, I tell them-- Don?t they love
to hear about ?the olden days?? What a yawn! Well, we just didn?t
carry many books, only a few under the arm for the boys, and the girls

hugging them to their (tender-budding) chests. Walking in pairs
and threes the girls in cotton dresses on a sun-spangled sidewalk
in the shadows of curbside maple trees.

Simply, there was less knowledge. Take history-- so much that was yet
to happen. World War II. UN, Cold War, Holocaust and Hiroshima, wars
slaughters famines AIDS LBJ JFK rocket to the Moon MLK and Watergate.

In geography, less countries: Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, no Korea,
one Germany, one China, Trans-Jordan, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, aha
Africa Terra Incognita. 48 states in the USA. Terror incognita.

Fewer elements too. Fewer particles. Atoms teeny solar systems--
heavy nuclei protons neutrons and electrons little planets in orbits
tidily-- Who knew then of mesons pesons quarks quirks (the ones called ?strange?) ?

We did have an ?environment.? It was all around which is what
environments do-- that is, be around. And mostly it tasted and smelled
OK, and birds in the air were happy and fish too in their watery element.

And Mr. Shulman the grocer with a stubby little pencil toting prices brick
of butter pickles slabs of cheese tin cans eggs milk sour cream et cetera et cet numbers
marching down a brown paper bag and zip zip sum sum faster than a Pentium.

And in the mornings we went off to school pairs and threes in the dappled shade
of sidewalk trees to learn from the thin books under our arms or tucked against
(tender-budding) chests the small knowledge of the narrow world.

Dear Mr. Rooney;

I hope that you read this and I know the odds of you knowing my dad are slim to none but after listing to you Sunday night I figured what the hell give it a shot. My dad in the service in the army and worked for the Stars and Strips during WWII. He was a artist and wrote the comic strip Mutton Head. He passed away back in 1961 I was only 7 years old at the time. He was a great artist and had a advertising firm in NYC back in the late 60s. He was a graduate of PRATT. His name Martin Sprinczeles. He has a great scrap book with hundreds of photos with all the names on the backs of them. I figured this was a shot in the dark.

Thanks
Artie

Dear Mr. Rooney,

You had a segment once about some important books (3 or 4)that you use on a daily basis. Would you please share the names of those books or give me the date of the segment so I can find it on the website? One was a grammer book.
Thanks,
Sharon

Dear Andy,

I just wrote an essay called "is the use of good grammar a lost art?"
I would like to share it with you. How can I do that? (I am a published author)

Andy I have been wanting to get something off my chest for over 10yrs. You came into the Home Depot in Norwalk Ct some 10+ years ago. I came up to you, excited to see a real "TV" personality. I asked if I could help you. You were looking for tongue (tung) oil. I was unsure what it was so I asked what it was used for. You replied "if you have to ask you can't help me" and promptly walked away from me. I thought and still do think that you are the rudest man I have ever had the displeasure of meeting.

heres a scoop for the world. A small town called London Ky in Laurel

County. Ever hear of double jeperody in the court system. Well here in

London ky they are building a fine new justice center in a small town of 5000

residents and oh boy is the bldg going up fast. Do you want to know how

they are getting the money to do it so fast. well hears the scoop on it. Roger

Schott's office (circuit court clerk) and the county attorneys office is letting

people file the same charge in district court and in circuit court just so they

can get the extra money. Peoples civil rights are been violated. they are

been arrested and jailed twice on the same charges and having to go to both

district court and circuit court on the same charges from the same person.

check their court records and you will find the same peoples names filing

the same charges against the same person in both district court and circuit

court on the same charge at the same time. according to the constitution of

the us you cant be retried on the same charge twice but oh boy here in

london ky they are doing it. this is happening to numerous people, all you

have to do is read the sentinel echo public records section and you will see

the same people getting charged with the same charge in district and circuit.

and this one is even better, there are cases going on in circuit court that

have no proof of a persons guilt but yet they wont dismiss the case just so

they can keep the bond money and change the docket number just so they

can make a new case out of it and keep the bond money longer therefore

making the accused have to restart over the case from beginning
I am setting here and thinking what is going on here. have they forgotten

what the constitution of the us our forefathers wrote.that said You can not be retried or reconvicted or even rejailed on the same charges. I dont know how many

people I have seen in Roger schotts office having to get bonded out of jail on the

same charges in both district and circuit courts. when did the constitution get changed to where

it says well guess what you can be retried and rejailed on same charges

over and over by the same people. the officals here in london have gotten to

big for their britches , changing the laws to suit their own way of thinking.
i have sat back and watch the commonweath attorney say they have no

evidence to prove a person guilty or convict them but they wont dismiss the

charges they want to push it to trial even with the complaining witness never

showing up. just like in district court even tho the complaining witnesses

dont show up the court dont dismiss the charges which i thought they had

to if the witness didnt show up but not here in london the courts push it to

trial just so they can hang on to the bail money and the county attorney who

is suppose to be in the court room during court but hasnt been there doing his

job in months well what is he getting paid for? and the county attorneys

office lets people file the same charge in district that they have pending in

circuit by just changing a few words in the statement so they can make it a

new/different case. You can check court cases affter court cases on the docket in district court and circuit court and you find the same person has filed the same charge on other people in both district and circuit.

why is the justice system of kentucky allowing such illegal goings on to go on letting the court systems county and commonweath attorneys do this violate peoples rights.

I have sat in both court rooms with my daughter and I dont know how many cases where I have seen this happen. I bet you there is close to 50 cases right now where this is happening people are been tried twice and jailed twice on same charges
the us dept of justice needs to come down here and please investigate these goings on and clean house and put in fresh faces that will uphold the law not their wants of been like a big city or their pockets with more raises

Are we suppossed to feel for Micheal Vick because he lost millions and months of his prime careeer? What about the dogs? What did they lose? 60 Minutes should NOT interview Michael Vick in the upcoming show!

Instead of interviewing Vick, how about interviewing some of the foster families for the dogs he didn't KILL!
Mr Rooney, would you do this please? For the dogs?

Note: There are plenty of people of color at the ASPCA. This is a lame excuse to try to draw attention away from Michael Vick. It will NOT work!

Loved your segment on kitchen tools. I am sure there are a lot of people out there with things they don't use. On that note, if you really aren't going to use the corn stick pan. I have been looking for one. Would put it to good use. And the story I would have to pass on to my kids...just let me know.

Thanks,
