My eldest brother (American African) has been married to a cruel unfeeling money grubbing Filipina woman for over 19 years.I've watched my happy, kindhearted, generous brother reduced to a man that's frightened of what insane threat his crazy wife will carry out next.My brother adopted her 2 Filipino children and raised them, has sponsored several members of her family to gain US citizenship, and when he became critically ill 2 years ago, she abandoned him at home alone - hoping he would die - but he didn't. Filipina's are cold scary women. Men of all colors - run! The sex stops as soon as she gets the upper hand financially.

I feel so sorry for the Bourdeau and Risken families. I would like them to know that I empathize with their pain. Back in 1988, my sister quit med school in San Diego in order to work at 3 jobs so her husband could continue going to med school. The husband killed my sister after she found out about his affair with the nanny who they hired to take care of their infant son. My sister was a hard-working, smart, self-sacrificing Filipino woman and her husband is a Caucasian-American. I was horrified by some of the comments to this segment. How can people throw stones at an entire nationality, as if their own race is incapable of doing the same ugly things? All of my 5 remaining sisters, two of which are married to Caucasian-Americans, and another to an African-American, are the higher wage earners in their families. I, myself, was the sole wage earner in my family when my Jewish-American husband decided to start a software company. This certainly does not make me think that Americans take advantage of their Filipino wives. There definitely are people from my country who would employ any means to get to the United States. If you were unfortunate enough to have been born in a poor country, where opportunities are very limited if not non-existent, then you will understand why. You might even employ the same, desperate tactic, such as luring an unsuspecting US serviceman to marry you... anything, just to get out, so you can feed the rest of the family that you have left behind. Sonia Rios was a sociopath, but, this is not a trait exclusive only to the Filipinos. I do agree that life is cheaper back there, and it is easier to commit crimes with impunity when you have the money to pay the corrupt officials. Still, the majority of the people are just simple, honest, decent, hard-working human beings.

I was a refugee in Philippine since the early waves of the boat-people from South Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. The live of refugees in Philippine was very difficult, but not bad. We got to sneaked out from refugees camp several times and had witness many places have small television in coffee shop with a lot of young women who want money in exchanged for sex. I was young, so I was not interested in such social desirer. It's never shock me when I accidentally viewed the 48 hours "Conspiracy To Kill" episode from Philippine. It was sadden to see such wonderful human who want to have a good-decent family but the unfortunate events taken places but no one ever discovered the expected that would happen, or already had happen previous marriage, especially for services men abroad. They needs special nursing while away from home. But looking at the pattern, several year ago, there was similar story televised, I think from ABC indicating young woman from Philippine married to a doctor living in the midwest with big house. But she hired her killer to finished her husband. There was another show from television networks filmed a white business man got murdered in those region, not just his life, but his wealth was reassigned to his abroad friend- like social circle. Those friend abroad do not hesitated to completed their mission as a "gold digger". Also for those temptation of tropical young women just impossible for services men to resisted. They did do the killing for the money that they need to supports theirs family. But then again, what about the killing in the USA everyday? The husband kill the wife as well his newly baby for the life insurance money, or perhaps the vice versa. You will never be able to justified from one case alone. But rather looking at the pattern of individual acted. What the service men must understands, to married to young pretty girl will always be an ultimate price tags they must paid- theirs lives. In Vietnam, before and after 1975 many of GI's children left behind, why is that? The children are the products of those services men stationed in Vietnam during the war. Vietnam society considering those children were American waisted legacy (half-bred), perhaps those were labeled through Vietnamese society. However, the service men abroad must define how safe to established long life relationship. The corruption from authority will never solved the murder mystery, more important to relocating the death body.

I spent more than 22 years Navy..I've been on the East and West Coast,
I've started at Great Lakes Illinois 1964, (BootCamp), Charleston South Catolina, then U.S.S. Saratoga (CVA-60) Mayport, Florida, In 1967, I got out for 7 Years, Came back to the Navy in 1974, Got assigned to U.S. Coronado (LPD-11) Norfolk Virginia, then to Commander-Carrier-Group Six (Admiral Staff) Jax, Florida, I was sent to San Diego for school, received orders to Washington DC for 4 years
Aferwards reassigned to U.S. Hunley (AS-31), Holy Loch Scotland, for 2 years, Got a set of orders to SIMA NRF, Long Beach Naval Station,
Put on Limited Duty to PSD, Long Beach, for 6 Months...While there in June 1990, I got to know Sonia Rios then, through a telephone conversation, I had a date with her We first meant at her home at 1819 252nd St Lomita, Ca...She was very nice to me...afterwards we dated a few times I enjoyed her company, a nice person, she let me drive her corvette Red Convertible, she acted like we need to get married, and pointed to the church to set up the wedding, At that time i just been divorced and wasn't ready to get married that fast.
I received orders to Japan, she contacted me many times asking me to go to Lomita to get married, but, I already met another woman then
I got married to my wife in 1991....After I retired from the Navy, living in Florida Sonia called me several times per day, and sent me letters, I didn't realize she was married to Mr Risken, Years after years gone By then My Wife told me about a Episode on 48 Hours viewing on AUGUST 1ST This year, I had to watch it several times to only realize that it was Sonia Rios Risken, I am 16 years older than Larry Risken, for him it was his first married, It seemed that they were happily married for most of there married. I'm sure Larry needed to have children to make his married more family like. What happened to him, Is a damn shame, and Sonia's previous husband Mr Earl
Bourdeau, I remember Sonia letting me know that she cannot have children, It didn't view Sonia as a Alledged Murderer, cause she was so friendly and nice to me...Sonia was very attractive, a successful person, who dressed elegantly she didn't smoke, or drink alcohol, she
always went to the gym to keep herself healthly. I wish I knew more of what happened with her! It's a terrible thing that happened here
All I can do Is pray for heeling of all the Lives of the people and families who lost their loved ones................Sorry......Harry

People make up a country. I am sure that not all of the country is corrupt. Since the last life insurance policy was frozen, I am sure that she could not pay her hitman and that is who killed her. This is why a person was trying to get 35,000 to move the ashes to the US.

Im an American, Ive been living in the Philippines for 5 years now. Murder of a foreigner is very common because there is no justice here. Unlike other countries in the Philippines a family member has to file charges, they are not pressed by the state. A foreigner will be bled for more money by corrupt police and its a certainty they wont pursue the killer.

The way to survive here is to stay away from the bad places, keep a low profile and dont marry a bar girl or live with one. In Angeles City a girl has the foreigner killed after she knows him long enough to get his banking information, then a fake break in is staged and he is murdered. When the police is called they even want a piece of the money or they will arrest the girl. Its corruption and scams non-stop

I would like to share my thoughts, best I declare myself first, I am neither a Filipina nor a Caucasian and this are just my thoughts.

Re the issue of Filipina gold diggers and white men, yes, they are gold diggers, they sell their body and youth to whomever wants to buy it, it is just another form of marketing. I am not trying to justify gold digging is right, but in real world, this method has always proved to be the quickest way out of poverty, so gold digging is here to stay, specially with men who is so naive. C'mon, when you are a guy who is 50, 60 or 70, with bald head and pot bellied, wrinkle skin and all that, and you don?t want to stick or target women of your same age group but wishing to have a firm body with silky skin sleep next to you every night, face the reality? you can only get what you want by buying it, it is a simple case of supply and demand? The thing is these men cannot accept the fact that girls young enough to be their daughter will never fancy them, Jesus, a girl of 25 or even 35, if it is not for the money, they would definitely choose some tall dark and handsome Filipinos to sleep and make love with.... so men, if u wish to have a sweet young thing in your arms, be prepare to be cleaned, just don?t tied the knot, maybe it will be safer..

Every country has a horrible side to it. Men have gone to war with themselves and others. All everyone here has is opinions. Everyone one of our lives is different. These two men just happened to cross the wrong path.

I was married to a girl from the Philippines(Manila) for 5 years. We met in Daly City,CA.when i met this women i thought(wow she is loving and her famil is loving as well). They like to pay cash everything anf they love to buy shoes and shop non-stop(sometimes spending more then they can afford)When we moved to The Philippines after my son was born i started to see things in a different light. Her family were getting a little testy and she ws becoming more and more angry all the time.We had a home in Manila and one back in California. To mke a long story short i was told to leave manila becouse of my life beeing threatened by a family member. So i left.I think that women coming from that country are crazy money grubers.I think that men and women are foul and will do what ever thay have to to get over on someone. When i see old white men with young Girls from the phillipines i just wonder "how long is it going to take to clean him out"These asian women just marry dumb American men for the money and to make life better for their families. And most time it happens.MEN PLEASE DON`T BE BLIND TO THIS.If you are 50,60 or 70 and you have a nice cute asian lady who wants to marry you for you...RUN AND CAL THE POLICE.Chances are she has done this before and is just waiting for the next SUCKER.......

This story is not to downgrade the Phillipines or the citizens. It only tells a story of two men that married the same woman and both men were murdered in the Phillipines after SHE told them to go there for different reasons. Also the men died while around her family. There is crime everywhere and it's sad that these men had to die the way they did and the remains of her first husband was just discovered (not by any help on her part before she was killed) and the remains of her second husband was never returned to his family. The country might be good to some, but the fact remains Sonia came from that country and she was anything but good. My prayers go out to the families.

I have a friend that sends money there to a young girl. He was actually having "yum yums" with her sister and a few of the sister's friends in the same bed. She writes him letters and tells him she loves him(lie) It almost looks like a form letter that has been copied. He met another one in the state(illegal)and she wants him to marry her. He has a pace maker so i guess she figures he won't be around long. She looks annoyed when she is with him. She isn't much to look at and is about 20 years younger. He pays her to clean his house(and whatever) Last time he came back from the Phillipines he had a nasty rash up and down between his legs. I tried talking to him, but he can't get over the "littleness" of them. I'm starting to think he is a closet pedifile. I have been friends with him for 18 years so it is hard for me to believe this is what he has turned into. He has a picture of himself with the family over the Phillipines and they look like they hit the lottery.
I guess it's none of my business but i care about him as a friend.

It is so ironic that Sonia would pay for her misdeeds (killing of two husbands) the same way by being assassinated herself. Maybe she didn't pay off the total amount to her hired killers, and they were afraid that she might turn them in. As the old saying goes, even in purgatory, justice is served.

Such a tragic story, so much undeserved pain for both Larry and Earl's family. I tip my hat to 48 Hours... it is not often from my experience, that a major news organization steps up to the plate and commits the resources displayed in this story to help a family. Thank you for all your effort and continuing excellence in bringing us stories that open our eyes to parts of our world unseen by the headlines.

Thanks for these great shows! I just wonder why it's hard to find the latest episode within the UI? When I click 48 hours at the top I see an advert for this episode but am not able to find out where to click and watch. If i click the story it goes to an about page regarding the new episode. There is no link there to watch the full episode. Also, it is not listed under 48 hours full episode page either.

Well again thanks.... just wanted to state my confusion with the UI. I stumbled upon the link to this episode somehow but it was not easy to find.

With all due respect to Mr. Clark?you cannot claim to have expertise on the Philippines because you?re marrying a Filipina. Traveling to one, two or three places in a Country of more than 3000 islands, will not provide you the capacity to certify the Philippines as a safe place. There is a huge amount of institutional corruption, kidnap, murder for hire, fraud and all around treachery? More than 160 journalists have been killed in the last 5 years alone!
The raw facts are this happens ALL the time... Foreigners are killed by their ?loving Filipina spouses? (via cousins and brothers and local thugs) all the time. Many people in the Philippines are good people?but many are treacherous, thieving, corrupt Nationalists who see killing a Foreigner as a means to make some easy money. It?s ironic in this case, it was another corrupt Filipino who kills Sonya Rios.

Here is another example of the exact same treachery committed some years ago. Almost identical scenario - It happens every month more or less.

Many behaviors are deceptive. It may be very important to see and understand some of these....because they do at some time later come up again and again causing real problems in relationships.
