There is a religion that does just that Mr.Rooney.Sad,but not everyone believes in God's free salvation plan.If they did there would
be no wars.We could start with"Thou shalt not kill"It's in the bible!

At age 63 I recently realized that all my successes or failures were always based upon the choices I ad made of a school child on. (My choice). Friends of mne and family went off to serve the nation in various capacities in assigned tasks to protect, police, change circumstances not supportive of the interests of the United States, United Nation and / or it's allies. War ocurs when everything else that could be done to prevent War ocurs. We failed as diplomats, negotiators, friends, neighbors and caretakers of humanity. Those we send to War for us are heroes as they have no choice but to obey orders and enforce our collective wills. Their lives, dreams, futures are forever changed and often sacrificed because of the experiences of War and doing our bidding. Remember the war dead and consider what other choices we may have had. Embrace our war veterans as family and heroes for there is little else left for them to go back to after the war. We owe everything to our heroes. We must learn to make better choices or, even at my age, and as a deterent, pick up a rifle and lead a hand...........

Mr. Rooney -

I've been watching 60 Minutes for years and this is the first time I've felt compelled to write. I always look forward to what you have to say. Sometimes you seem to be relatively serious and other times you are clearly poking fun at one topic or another. Your May 26th piece on Memorial Day was excellent. I apologize for simply saying excellent but I can't think of higher praise at the moment. With surprisingly few words you managed to get past the pomp and circumstance that is Memorial Day at the many cemetaries around this nation and , instead, dealt with the sad reality of Memorial Day ............... lives taken! And you did it with honor, grace and a profound rerspect for those that went before. Excellent, absolutely excellent!

Sincerely - Robert L. Gonder

Three Cheers for Andy Rooney's Memorial Day message! He has touched the nitty-gritty of the situation. In the end, it is a relative few who destroy much for an uninvolved civilian population. I heard a Palestinian man say in a news broadcast, "I don't care about Palestine, and I don't care about Israel. All I want is a life, a job, to feed my children!" War should not be an honored profession. It's legalized killing. A new religion which might make a dent in the mentality which fosters war has to exhalt the middle position over the sides. Kids need to be taught to honor conflict resolution through conversation, not force. If conflicts cannot be resolved, there is a lack of creative imagination amongst those who try.

What I meant to say ===
will ot sometime be that the U.S. courts base their decisions
(misc. on the bible ) in addition to the U.S. Constitution.
Due to the specific immigration.
And applied to those, when decided.

(so to make clear: I'm not endorsing Myself as a religious believer / religious person.)
I only endorse "the Bible" as an authentic, legit source of history.
Just as the U.S. Constitution is a an authentic, legit source of history.
That the U.S. Courts greatly rely on -- to make their decisions.
But guess what:
More & More immigration from (religion-culture) mideast -- has immigrated into the USA.
Their are already neighborhoods wher we U.S. natural citizens are outnumbered by them, along with those from south of the U.S. border.
When I see them lined up at the welfare office, and looking anywhere for freebies ----
in their customary clothing.

Of Andy in speaking about war being "taken down": "If we don't find some new way; some new religion - maybe."
As so long there be different religions, war will be. The Bible proves it.
As so long there be different political beliefs, war has been.
Religion & Politics don't mix in peace: be it the old world (the mideast proves it -> heavy duty). Nor in the modern world countries.
Andy work for the media; the media has much power in the USA over society's mindsets.
Maybe Andy can help find "Some New Way."
