I was completely mortified at her nonchalant attitude in describing the vicious, cruel and selfish act she and her brother perpetrated on their stepfather. She and her brother definitely deserve the MAXIMUM penalty afforded to people their age. I also think as they get older, they should be watched very closely. Who knows what they would do to anyone else who seems to "upset" them. Very disturbing!

It's very sad, but if you would understand close to 50% of marrieges have the same scenarion. Murdering over a serious educational foult. They don't teach what is the diiffernt between securities & opportunities. Mostly ladies, men too, try to depend on someone.
The problem is EDUCATION

I don't think we got the whole story there. It's not clear if she paid $1,700 for murder or just to scare her stepdad. On the written page, she initially claimed Nathan asked for the combo to the safe.
Perhaps she was going to have him steal the safe's contents, then when her stepdad "got rid of her" (for being a bum apparently - her feeling that he put her down - which might have been get a job or do something with your life) then she could escape with the money Nathan stole.
I'm not certain, but that could have been the plan.
As to the other 4 comments, it seems to me the biggest problem is the complete lack of respect for any authority - and that has been taught since the 68'ers and their speak truth to power and don't trust anyone over 30 movement.
Along with that we have a long string of movies and films and pop culture where kids are taught to especially hate stepparents, and to hate themselves and whoever "abandoned them" (their biological parents) - which is just another line of psychobabble, because one could just as easily say a stepparent loves a child enough to take them under their wing.
So, all the hatred that is taught as a default in the society is likely part of the problem - and the "girlfriend" issue with a stepdad is just another indicating the breakup up the families, also perped on society by the sexual revolution and the hatred for traditional moral values.
These things like sexual and personal freedom and hating authority and not trusting anyone over 30 have consequences - not to mention abortion which teaches kids the adults murder when they don't want kids - not very comforting at all.
It's sad but in a very twisted manner it is quite easy to "see how this happened".
I believe it's all related to that revolution of the 60's - wasn't all bad but it's tenets have consequences - at least how it played out does.

She's a sociopath. She killed her stepdad because she thinks he chose a girlfriend over her. I wonder how her mom died. Maybe someone should look into that. She and her brother are really evil people.

So I guess this is what you get when generations of teenagers grow up unattended in a world where every movie glorifies violence, where 50% of air time is about soldiers going to foreign countries killing people, where school teachers are happy they survived another day in the classroom, and where a man is defined by being able to hold his girl, his booze and his gun. Yeah, something when majorly wrong in America a long time ago. We are not cowboys (except those few who actually are) and we don't live in caves anymore. When will we begin to teach children values that enable them to live a productive life in peace?

Unbelievable! I still don't think she gets the magnitude of what she's done. These kids don't seem to realize that killing someone is real and forever. Could it be from playing too many video games or watching too many violent movies?
