These kids, in my opinion were created from a traumatic past. When is society going to wake up, and realize that abuse to children causes life long distress, and damage of which there is scant adequate treatment. I went through it, and I'm still paying for it. I have never done anything to anyone. I TRULY WISH THAT TREATMENT FOR ABUSE AT THIS POINT IN TIME WAS ADEQUATE IN TURNING AROUND THIS TERRIBLE TYPE OF DAMAGE WHICH AFFECTS ALL OF SOCIETY. MOST OF ALL I AM ASKING YOU TO BECOME TOTALLY AWARE THAT WE SHOULD SPEND A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TIME, ENERGY, AND DOLLARS TO FIND SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT FOR ABUSE. When I was abused I was virtually sentenced to a life of hell. I wish there was some way out.

The girl is a sociopath who is a danger to society and evil to the core based on the evidence and her general nature and lack of remorse. However, the boy was both guilty of bad decisions and a victim of his sister's manipulative and strategic mind games. He has suffered from a severe lack of love throughout his life, and loved his sister, the same sister that now threw him under the bus for her disgusting wishes. Not an excuse, if he was actually a participact, but definitely no more likely to land him in hell than the lack of sympathy I have seen in these comments will land their makers in hell.

I personally don't think Nathan is guilty. Why would he leave his life in Arizona to murder someone he had no connection to? He was an honor student, could speak different languages, had a girlfriend that loved him,it just doesn't make sense.
On the other hand,he did not have gun powder residue on his hands. Many neighbors that saw a man run out of the house, could not identify him or his truck at the crime scene. A long hair was found on the gun that belonged to Brae, the gun was found placed in a way, that would have been a natural way for a right handed person to drop-but Nathan is left handed, whereas Brae is right handed. There is no physical evidence that shows that he was in Tim's house.
He may have well confessed in that video that we saw, because the cops are telling him that his sister is going to fry, his poor little sister. Maybe he felt he had to stand up for her, and thus say what he said on that video. The video doesn't clearly show that he actually knew what had happened.
When the sister slipped and said his name, it was when one of the detectives was asking her again, to state what had happened in the murder house.(The Macneil's brother said, that at gun point Tim would not have refused to give the combination of the safe, he thought there had to be more to the story and asked the detective to interrogate brae one more time) She said, she was zip tied, and then "since her dad wanted to go to the bathroom" Nathan unzipped her hands so she could take off her dad's pants, and then zip tied her again.
¬¬...I think she took down his pants to humiliate him,it makes no sense that someone at gun point would ask to go to the bathroom. It also makes no sense that nathan would take the time, to unzip her, then zip her up again, just so she could take off her dad's pants. she had to explain why her fingerprints were on her dad's belt, and she may have panicked and started making that part up, and since she usually blamed her brother for everything she said his name...

Unfortunately the two convicted individuals were mentally abused by their mother as well as affected by her committing suicide. I believe these two individuals were genetically predisposed with the mother'S genes and who knows anything about the biological father. It is so important that we investigate the background of people before we invite them in our lives.
The father was a loving individual and one who gave so much of himself--including his life. HE DIDN'T DESERVE IT AND THOSE TWO INDIVIDUALS MUST TAKE RESPONSIBLITY FOR THEIR ACTIONS. The fact is they're murders and it's good the young man has been taken out of society--as for Brae--she is cold and will do well in prison.

I just wanted to thank all of you breeders for creating these little monsters for us all to have to deal with! This is one of the many reasons I never had children. Because it doesn't matter how good of a person you are, your kids will kill you if they decide they don't like you! Disgusting little worms! These two need the death penalty as bad as anyone has ever needed it! Instead, we're gonna all pay to keep them fed and housed for the rest of their lives. Disgusting!

She feels no remorse over orchestrating the death of her step-father. It still makes no sense why she was angry with him and talked with her brother about murdering him. Her brother additionally had no good reason for murdering his step-father. They seem like genetic sociopaths/psychopaths. Their mother sounds like she might have been abusive but so many other children grow up in abusive households and don't end up killers. (Also, his mother is not here to defend herself.) Yes, her step-father had remarried after her mother's death but he was still a part of her life. She was lucky to have a step-father who cared for her. So many people don't even have that. She didn't even cry in her police interview or on the 48 Hours interviews. She didn't cry until she was sentenced. She can only cry for herself. She and her brother deserve to be locked up. She is lying when she says that she didn't really expect it to happen even though she planned it. First, she tried to hire a stranger and put money and a gun and a key in a paper bag outside her house. When the killer never showed up, that might have been her chance at salvation--to abandon her stupid murder fantasy. Instead she continued by having her brother carry out the crime.

First of all, I don't really care for Tracey Smith. Her voice is too harsh. She doesn't really compliment the show.

It's a terrible story. "serafim".. you say there was no evidence.. please.. they both admitted to it. They are definitely guilty. You didn't hear OJ admitting to anything, did you? And, "marblestone", why do you bring sexual abuse into it? There was never any mention of it. Don't you think if the girl was abused in that manner she would've used it to her defense?? Yeah.. she would've.

wow, the compassion the oldest daughter has for her stepbrother and stepsister is incrediable!!! I can't even imagine the pain and loss that she had to go through during this time in her life. That takes a lot of courage, love and forgiveness on her part. Absolutely amazed by her act of kindness:-)

wow I'm shocked at not only young people planning a parents murder but some people's reaction to the verdict..........I think they got more than a fair trail.........the boys admission wasn't allowed......and that I changed my mind crap........and motive wow he chose his girlfriend over her sad that the world is without a great man......I'm curious I watched the entire video and never seen or heard any sexual abuse mentioned as far as the victim is concerned.......he couldn't have been too bad he raised her and it wasn't his blood daughter also put her as an equal share in his will and that's the thanks he got.......his poor daughter that still has love in her heart for her step sister.........the boy and girl got what they deserved and the girls saying she would kill herself just a dramatic plea for attention.

What pathetic step kids. The girl is a total loser, she's a greedy, money hungry disturbing girl who deserves to be in prison without parole, the guy is just mentally messed up. Both these kids do not deserve any leniency for taking a life so crudly and maliciolusly....they deserve to die like their psychotic mother......

It's obvious these kids DID plot the death of their dad. Even though it was ruled as "inadmissable in court", the video SHOWS Nathan admitted he was the shooter of his dad. The video also SHOWS that Brae admitted that it had been a plot................everything from there was each of these kids LYING and pointing the finger at each other in order to AVOID the consequences of their actions. They were certainly OLD ENOUGH to know what they were doing............if they plotted murder to kill a man who had cared for them, they (Nathan) showed him NO mercy when he begged for his life, and Yes! Of course, they lied and will continue to do so to SERVE themselves.......they want out of prison! They gained NOTHING and lost EVERYTHING. So incredibly foolish and pathetic. And yes, they should be held accountable for what they did.................it would be a travesty to let them get off easy simply because they are "kids".

There is no "justice" in the United States, and certainly no mercy. A PERFECT FATHER who allowed an abusive mother to abuse his daughter and a son who moved away and seemed to have done well...a hysterical highschool ex-girlfriend and a convicted drug dealer and money-launderer as reliable witnesses?

Children are allowed to be tried for murder in the first degree in the "Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave." Disgusting. Murder trials in the United States of America are, by nature and without regard to prior circumstances, vindictive and punitive by nature. Prisons in the USA are hell houses, not "penitentiaries" or houses of healing or rehabilitation.

I do not believe that either this young man or this young woman have been truly presented before a court of law. Who so turned them against each other? What REAL evidence is there that either of them killed their father? The abusive mother kills herself; the perfect father is murdered by his son and daughter? Maybe so. BUT also, MAYBE NOT.

Who is to say how people react to tragedy? Some weep, scream and continue to express their grief with real intensity. Others freeze and are unable to vent the sorrow and pain they feel inside. Some turn into fire; some turn into ice. There is NO ONE WAY OF EXPRESSING GRIEF.

OJ Simpson was declared not guilty in his criminal trial. Everyone assumes that he did murder his former wife and the young waiter who dropped by from a restaurant to return her eyeglasses. What if he, too, is actually innocent. What if the murderer of his former wife and the waiter is still walking free and laughing at a nation ravenous for revenge, just or unjust? Who knows. As Shakespeare wrote, "something is rotten in the state of Denmark."

Guns, guns, guns everywhere. The NRA and the late Charlton Heston fighting to let anyone possess weapons designed to kill human beings in spite of tragedies like Columbine Highschool, Virginia Tech and now "Daddy's Little Girl," to mention but a smidgen of similar "murders in the first degree." What a great nation in so many ways. What a monstrous, vindictive, cruel state in so many other ways...shades of Abu-Ghraib!

Nobody should be murdered. Nobody should be convicted of crimes without the absence of a reasonable doubt.

The stepfather loved them. He tried his best to be the father those kids never had. What's wrong with that? It just wasn't enough for a girl who had everything to live for.
I don't care if that girl was 17 at the time. She had sense to plot a murder like an adult. She spoke so eloquently and calm. Her brother was just a plain Liar. A rapist, murderous Liar.
What's wrong with our kids today? We try to give them all that we can out of love and caring. I guess it just isn't enough, ever. To the stepfather Tim McNeal. Rest In Peace.

The only thing I will say in her favor is it appears she was underaged when interrogated without an adult or lawyer present.

It is obvious that he raised a lovely and compassionate daughter and they were the stepchildren from hell.

This is my TWELFTH attempt to view this video; it sticks in mid-play and has to be restarted and this has been going on for the last 10 or so episodes. This is frustrating and not of the standard one has come to expect from CBS. There is obviously something amiss since others are also complaining. Please attempt to fix the problem-there are alternatives: MSNBC's Dateline and ABC's 20/20 . Whilst I attest that CBS' high quality narration and well-written stories grab my attention-I'm equally put off because I cannot view an epidose in its entirety or without several starts and stops. What's the sense? I have to rely on others' comments to know what transpired in the end. Come on CBS-you can do better! Either get it right or remove 48hours from your web line up.

@marblestone
You hear that half sentence about "he left me for another woman" and make a whole story out of it.
I also heard the sentence at the end: "we all get mad about our parents at times." Why can't you take up this and say that some stupid teenage ideas went too far. Perhaps because they were both harmed psychologically at some time in the past?
Yes, the reason could be a sexual one, but if you hear the step son's words, he just wanted to "be taken seriously for once."
My conclusion: There are so many possible motives that accusing a dead man of sex crimes is not appropriate here. And it wouldn't justify this cold-blooded planning, anyway.

Good thing she won't be getting out. She thinks she did nothing wrong, being she said she thought she should walk.

Marblestone: Yeah, it's easy, but then it's easy to put the victim on trial, such as accusing him of sexually abusing his stepdaughter, and he's not alive to defend himself.

"There are always other things to be considered when something this tragic happens.

That doesn't mean anything. So many murders have no good excuse, and neither does this one. They should be tried as adults, and sentenced as adults. Life in prison, or the death penalty.
