Iowa Supreme Court's choice to buck public opinion

Chief justice on the Iowa Supreme Court, Marsha Ternus joined a unanimous decision that deemed a ban on gay marriage in Iowa was unconstitutional. When Ternus and two fellow justices were up for a retention election the next year, they lost lost their jobs. Ternus and her colleagues were honored as 2012 recipients of the John F.
