It's obvious. He came from an abusive family. If you notice, not one of his family members were present in the courtroom. That says it all, period!

Some of you sound so ******* retarded (forgive me for the inappropriate language), but really guys! Not everybody needs a motive, clearly this man is just another psychopath that gets some kind of sick kick from others fear and pain! IT IS THAT SIMPLE!

I can't imagine how difficult it would have been for marti and her family to recover from such a horrifying and traumatic experience. It is frighting that men and women like this live among us and come unnoticed, I can't believe he isn't in for life. There is no 'goodness' in his eyes just a dark, early and vacant look. That is when you know that they are the dangerous ones.. when they are emotionless, no guilt, no nothing

I am truly glad this woman was able to live, and identify this person. She was very courageous as well as her family. Maybe he wanted to be caught. Why hand over bloody pants, knowingly? His background check basically gave the motive. I believe if not caught, this man would move on to be a serial killer. I think she would have been his first real victim as a serial killer, as it sounds he was making his way up through domestic violence.

Who knows why he did it, what does it matter? He's obviously mentally whacked. This story made it seem like it was terrible for her to be attacked and almost killed BECAUSE she was a hard-working woman. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?? Coming into a person's home and attacking them to the point of death is just as wrong whether the victim broke her butt working for decades or was a house-wife or disabled!!

I think he's probably killed woman in the past and is a serial killer. If he had no other reason except wanting to kill someone, it kind of makes sense that he's just That- "A serial Killer". He must have known her daily schedule and knew she was alone. They should check out any unsolved murders in the past 10yrs!

when she speaks about the realization she felt as she reached the bottom of the steps of the basement when he went over, i can only imagine the fear. the hairs on the back of my neck stuck up! i think he would have definitely became a serial killer.

I think the man just wanted to check out of the competitive pace of life and new that sooner or later he would be caught and taken care of (food, shelter, health care, etc.)on our tax dollars for now. I also believe that if he would not have been caught--he would have continued killing more until he was either caught or killed. He just did not care. Thank God for the fighting spirit in Marti!

I think motive was his evil disturbed character and perhaps the urge to kill.glad he got caught early otherwise he would do this again.
