January 19, 2013 10:23 AM

Speaking at a National Day of Service event at Burrville Elementary School in D.C., President Obama thanked attendees for spending their time serving, saying it was a fitting tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr., after whom the day is named. The president said that serving others is "really what America's about," and a reminder that we all prosper when we give our time to others.
