That might on the surface not seem like much, but consider all the possible ways you might have been exposed to a news story (shy of being involved in one);
1 - You read it in the paper
2 - You saw it on a TV News broadcast
3 - You heard it on the radio
4 - You read it on the internet
5 - You heard it through the grapevine
Unfortunately none of these are a guarantee the whole unbiased truth, but if you think about where your best bet might come from, I would bet on the newspaper.
Your story was very thorough in following all the time, blood, sweat, and cost it takes to get a paper hand delivered to it's destination. In fact, of all the avenues listed above, the paper story takes the longest to execute (with TV a very close second). With this in mind, it stands to reason that a story's reliability, relevance, and value are going to be called into check more times before it can be awarded the permanence, and limited space afforded in a printed newspaper.
I dread the day when printed news is gone forever. There has to be a much stronger conviction in a story than it might be afforded in the digital world, where legitimate stories often get lost in a sea of unreliable sources and knee-jerk reactions hastily thrown into the fray.
