The False Confession Capital, The Race To Save The Tortoise, Hugh Jackman

December 9, 2012 8:00 PM

It's hard to believe people would confess to a heinous crime they didn't commit, but they do -- especially teenagers; Also, turtles and tortoises have been roaming the planet for 200 million years, but now many of them are endangered by poachers who can sell some animals for as much as $60,000; And, Scott Pelley profiles the Australian actor who now says he's doing the "role of a lifetime" as Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables."

The solution here is very simple and it's proven to work ! How ?
Make confession of a crime to a police officer or an investigator NON-ADMISSIBLE in court. The confession to a crime should only be admissible if presented publicly and in the presence of a public defender.
South Korea Court of Law does not allow confession to a police officer or to an investigator as valid. Google the name "Kenzi Snider" and read about her case. She is an American student in South Korea who was coaxed to admit to a crime she did not commit but because confession to anyone other than a public defender is not admissible, she was saved from the death penalty or life imprisonment.

This business of DA's or others in power disavowing obvious evidence is too rampant. This woman who looked the reporter in the eye and tried to make us believe that some rapist had sex with a dead body is sick. She is the one who is the problem in these instances and should be replaced. As others have mentioned...this idea that they have to protect their office or integrity is the reason many innocents are incarcerated. When will those in power do something about his horrific injustice?

the Ryan Harris case ? Twelve days after Ryan's body was found, authorities charged a 7-year-old boy and 8-year-old boy with the murder, making them the youngest murder suspects in the nation at the time.
A little more than a month later - after police investigators and high-ranking officials hit the airwaves decrying them as young monsters--the boys were freed. Forensics tests uncovered ***** on the girl's underwear, which, because of the boys' ages, could not have come from them. The evidence implicated an older man, Floyd Durr, 36 who had a long history of sexual assaults of girls . this man brothers also covicted of rape and murder . I remember the city tried to say that the littele boys kill the girl and he just happen to find her after she was dead dose that sound familiar ? at one point they were going to use the criminal as a witness against the children . this case made me so sick be cause it was so clear that the boys did not do this crime .yet they destroyed these children lives .this case was all over the new all over the world.

Psst! Mr Pitts! Anita Alvarez just confessed! She stated, "I don't know whether he committed the crime or not. There are still unanswered questions in both of these cases. That I couldn't sit here today and tell you that they are all guilty or they are all innocent." But sir it is the prosecution s burden to show proof beyond a reasonable doubt. Has she not just admitted that burden was not met? I rest my case.

Now everyone can see that Anita Alvarez cares only about how her office looks and cares nothing about those innocent men who wasted their lives in a prison they did not belong. How sad!!
