As an owner of an imaging company who specializes in Archiving records, your story only cements what we do for work.

When we are finished they cannot steal the original. But the monies for imaing is so limitted. The make the cost of imaing meaningless, and the documents priceless. We can help save libraries and musemums cannot aford not to engage our serivces. Thanks Mr. Simmon.

Barry Landau to serve seven years in federal prison

June 27, 2012

Disgraced collector Barry H. Landau was sentenced Wednesday to seven years in federal prison for stealing thousands of historic documents worth as much as $2.5 million from archives along the East Coast, including one in Baltimore, where the scheme unraveled last summer.

The 64-year-old Manhattan resident, who for years fooled celebrities and political players into believing he had significant ties to the White House, was also ordered to pay $46,525 in restitution and to stay away from all archives and libraries after he is released.

Disgraced collector Barry H. Landau, as far as I am concerned should spend the rest of his pathetic life in jail....some countries even cut off the hands of crooks for stealing, maybe a little harsh - but in this case the two crooks would still be doing what they did except for being caught - people get a life sentence without parole for much less crimes,

Having worked in a Museum I was taken back that both Pat Anderson, Director of the Maryland Historic society and Bob Simon were handling historic documents without gloves. Pat's blue gloves were sitting to the right of the
stolen documents. Someone must have said something to her as the next segment she had the gloves on. Bib Simon was picking up Thomas Jefferson's paper without a protective sleeve.
The producers of 60 Minutes should know better.

We were appalled to hear at the end of this episode that the inspector general was put on leave for doing his job and being effective.
