Of all the states that have legalized the growing and selling of medical marijuana, none has more at stake than Colorado, where a thriving industry has created jobs and revenue. But as Steve Kroft reports, it's still against federal law. Watch Kroft's report Sunday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. ET and 7:00 p.m. PT.

I found this story to be very informative on cannabis initiatives in Colorado; how the State of Colorado and Federal officials differ on this subject. This was an objective report.

Marijuana smoke produces 10 times the amount of Tar than cigarettes, which is one of the leading causes of lung cancer. The fact that most marijuana smokers also smoke tabacco products increases the risk of getting cancer by 60%. Meaning you will get cancer. Learn the true facts before you go saying "SMOKING" Marijuana is safe. Now if the THC can be extracted into a water soluable liquid and used in maybe tne same way as the electronic cigarettes do. Then it can be considered safe.

LEGALIZE?? WHO MADE THESE SILLY LAWS IN THE FIRST PLACE? ALL LAWS ARE ILLEGAL BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE A GOD GIVEN RIGHT TO USE ANYTHING THAT COMES FROM THE EARTH NO MATTER WHAT. WHO ARE THEY TO CONTROL US? THEY ARE NOTHING BUT HUMANISTS TURNING PEOPLE INTO FOOLS. UNTIL CURRENCY HAS NO VALUE THESE PEOPLE IN POWER WILL CONTINUE WITH THEIR EVIL ACTS. THEY DO IT BECAUSE THEY CAN AND THE PEOPLE ACCEPT IT. CORRUPTION ALL OVER THE LAND.

I'm a secularist but consider this passage from the Bible:

And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.
http://bible.cc/genesis/1-29.htm

Note no mention that they were given to Monsanto or to Big Pharma. Nope they were given to ALL of the people.

The whole "medical marijuana" approach has far outlived its usefullness. Most of us smoke to "get high" and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

What would constitute a true moral hazzard is to give control of this plant to the very same corporations (Big Pharma, Monsanto) that have been railing against this plant for over 75 years now.

The answer is not to reschedule Cannabis but rather to deschedule it. Do you find hard liquor or beer on the CSA schedule. No you don't. So, since Cannabis is actually good for you there is no reason for us to buy into this ******** of desceduling so that Big Pharma can monopolize control of Cannabis. 60 Minutes is pushing their propaganda as ussual. But sorry, the answer is not to "tax, regulate and control" Cannabis. The answer is to treat it like the tomatoes you grow in your garden.

Because Marijuana is Safer that Beer . . .
How About We Start Treating It That Way?

I sure hope that "60 minutes" does not use someone who financially profits for the prohibition of cannabis (Pharmaceutical Industry or their lobby, private prison lobby, cartel lobby, or government stooges (NIDA or DEA)) to use this segment to vilify this plant. This would really be, ah so, typical.

I am really tired of this "medical" marijuana path being taken to gain acceptance of the most benign substance humans use to alter consciousness. It's already widely known that the indications for medical use have been documented back as far as 2500 years ago in the Chinese materia medica, the Shen Nong. Practically all indigenous medical paradigms since, have some mention of cannabis use being effective for a wide array of ailments. The empirical data of safe human use dwarfs all pharmaceuticals ever developed. Quite simply, humans have had an intimate and safe relationship with cannabis use for thousands of years.

Forget the medicinal use argument and just plain eliminate the draconian laws banning this plant. Granted, most med users are truly using for their ailments, but what's wrong with allowing anyone of age to ingest a substance that makes them eat, laugh, talk, heal, sleep, and maybe most of all(unlike alcohol)...think! The desire to alter our consciousness is what sets human intelligence apart from other species. We all do it through food, sex, exercise, electronic heroin, praying,NASCAR,etc. Cannabis's greatest health benefit maybe one that many Western doctors ignore in their patients the most and that is the boosting of spirit, something we all could use during these times.

if weed were legal then every skanktoker would start their own patch, whether in a farm or the garage the basement or the bottom of the closet. zero revenue. The only people who want weed legal are addicts.

I don't want to cause a panic but I was the first person to post in response to this story and my post seems to have been removed....

What I said was... we are a small private company in Colorado who is actually in the medical marijuana trade and we are seeking people to step in where the banks will not and offer us a small short term loan for our operating capital needs. Please reach out to me if you can help at mmjviceroy at gmail.com.

That's what I said and my post was removed!

The mexican drug cartels have figured out that there is a multi-billion dollar marijuana industry in the US. The "feds" prohibition of pot use is not the will of the people.

Legalize marijuana, regulate it, tax it,,,,just like tobacco and alcohol. The first and most significant benefit will be to eliminate the flow of guns, money, and marijuana across the Arizona and Texas border. The criminal, murderous mexicans will lose all their business to Americans legally growing marijuana in the US to feed the market that will never go away no matter how many US citizens the "government" incarcerates. Police will be able to spend their resources on fighting real crime, maybe even preventing the slaughter of people in movie theaters, bar and grill(Fieros), finding the child psycho killer in Westminster....

Legalize it already! Take the profit away from the black market and give it to the state!
