Civil society appears to have great difficulty distinguishing the difference between a predator and a domesticated animal, human or otherwise. Predators are not like normal people. Mankind recognized that around the time of the dinosaur when there were no zoos.

It took time for humans to accept the fact that humans could be predators, and devise a method for their containment, a.k.a., jails, instead of merely killing them as is still done with some wild animals.

That there could be "wild people" has not been a concept humans are willing to entertain since the cultural expectation is that people will live within the boundaries of modern society and according to its laws. When predators are found, like those of Madoff, they are sentenced to jail as we was - because he was a predator and unsafe to be around civil people without harming them, regardless of his intent. Animals do what comes naturally without a thought for the victim as to whether it is good for them or not. They are only interested in their own survival and welfare. That is how we understand that they are wild animals.

It matters little what kind of predatory act it is: child molestation, rape, robbery, or murder, or the tools humans are able to use to carry out their predatory acts. It doesn't erase the reality that predatory acts are such that mankind must take preventative measures to prevent them, and to take action when prevention has been unsuccessful. That applies to all humans including lawyers, judges, bankers, and priests.

Allowing predators to run freely within society with the high probability that they will harm someone is not a logical option for humans if protection from predators is the objective. To do otherwise is to promote the human jungle where some predators will be successful and others won't. Because they are predators, most will be successful now or later.

Humans don't come with automatic common sense, but some thoughtful pondering can help to bridge that overeducated gap.
