The United States violated the Geneva Conventions. If we want the respect of other nations we need to abide by internationally recognised laws and treaties. It would be unwise for the American people to operate with their heads in the sand. Was the country safer during the Bush administration? Attacks may have been prevented but at a heavy price. As an American living abroad, I can tell you that the anger towards the U.S. was boiling over. President Obama is popular overseas because he is seen as someone who will respect and abide by international standards. Torture needs to be the exception to the rule, not the standard. The CIA needs to be kept on a short leash. Congress needs to have investigative powers to ensure that the CIA is operating within the law. I think you will find that these sentiments would and are being echoed by many in the intelligence community.

This whole thing has turned too political. What we need to do is let the CIA do its job so we can get back to feeling safer, rather than fingerpointing at the past.

From the White House Press Room April 21, 2008:
HELEN THOMAS: You're denying, in this room, that we torture and we have tortured?
MS. PERINO: Yes, I am denying that.

So now Ms. Perino says "Those were tough decisions" and Obama's administration "flip-flops" and is "wrapped around the axle". You may be smart. You may be pretty. You may sound persuasive but you are not credible. You should join Ann Coulter, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and sail off to Neverland.

Since World War II Waterboarding has been Torture. A GI in Vietnam was court marshalled for that exact thing and when that happened the Commanding General of my outfit called all NCO's in and laid out the Geneva Convention on that matter. There is NO doubt that Bush is a Criminal.. PERIOD!
