I never add comments, in Forums such as these because, I'm cognizant most people shouldn't really care what I think. However, I'll add this comment here because, making tax records for every single American part of the PUBLIC record is a very good idea. I'm acutely aware so many 'privacy' arguments can/will be made versus this idea - but, why?
Preceding an argument somewhat might posit please know, my salary has been made public because, anyone can 'surf' a Dept. of Defense payscale and figure-out what I earn - to the penny - in effect, all of my salaries/benefits. In fact, when one applies my current geographic location/HOR/percentage (which will be levied against my 'Basic Pay')/and a bit of simple arithmetic they'll instatnly know what my Fed.IncomeTax bill will be, also.
If what we as Americans pay in Income Taxes were accessible for public scrutiny it very well may alter everyone's perception of Income Taxes. Many might consider it to be their most patriotic definition - something they would be proud to display, vice the 'stupid' $4.99 flag pin they purchased on the street corner.
I'm not going to waste anyone's reading time on the following topics:
-It's criminal to try & cheat your government at 'tax-time' when you're ultimately cheating public health & welfare
-How I have deep reservations concerning how a large portion of our tax dollars are spent (e.g., the unfortunate, unsalvageable, criminally insane woman, who ate her baby last week, who shall end-up paying her defense and incarceration bills with my/our tax dollars).
-How my perception of paying taxes is jaded because, I'm ultimately I'm paying my own salary.
-How everyone's perception regarding paying taxes are 'self-centric' (if that's a word[?]) because those perceptions are wholly-based on what tax dollars do for you, as an individual.
BOTTOM LINE: I agree with Andy, because the act of paying taxes is an experience we share with all other Americans, it should absolutely be part of the Public Record each year [what everyone individually paid]. Alot of things might change for the better, as a result.
