- The story about Ahmed Batebi in Iran is shocking and disturbing, I agree. But the truth is that it is only in the degree of the torture that this story of Ahmed Batebi's imprisonment and torture differs from the stories of Wen Ho Lee and Susan MacDougall in the United States. They also were imprisonmed and held for many months in solitary confinement on unjust charges by their government. Wen Ho Lee describes in his book how he was held in solitary confinement with a light always on and water on the floor. Their government was attempting to get them to confess to acts or crimes they had not committed. And this was not during the Bush administration - it was under the Clinton administration. Humility rather than self-righteousness will, no doubt, be a good policy for our country!
