Alice Waters, a champion of local, organically grown food, is now pushing for schools to plant gardens to give children the experience of growing and eating their own food.

Alice Waters lives in a food utopia. To eat "as well" as she does, everyone including those in apartment houses would have to grow their own fruits and vegetables and raise their own animals. Not very practical especially for urban dwellers. Unless of course Bernanke is wrong and we are forced back into an agrarian society!

I disagree with calling Alice the mother of self promotion. She has been an important voice in the cultural revolution in Amercian food over the past few decades. Other than selling seats in her limited top restaurant or selling her books, how is profitting? I for one have appreciated her sensibilies toward food long before she became recognized so widely. I thank her for her focus on teaching kids about their food comes from and in learning about taste. Perhaps this is because i have been o Slow Food member for along time. Bravo Alice, and Bravo CBS for getting the message out.
