March 4, 2009 7:24 AM
Drug cartel fueled violence has turned into war in Mexico, with thousands of deaths and the government battling well-armed gangs whose military-grade weapons come mostly from U.S. dealers. CNN's Anderson Cooper reports.

I am not fooled.. I can look up US gun laws on Wikipedia, and see for myself that most of the weapons shown and mentioned ARE NOT available for sale in the US. Either the US military is providing the weapons, or these billionaire drug cartels are not having any problem purchasing these weapons elsewhere. Neither answer is a stretch. This is another case of the Media mouthpiece for gun control at work. They are setting us up for martial law and eventual gun confiscation.
Don't EVER give up your 2nd amendment rights.
Think America! Read! Learn! Don't be fooled! Look everything up on Wikipedia and Google it. The answers are out there, and they are easy to find.
Think about how many people are in the prison system in the U.S. over non violent drug crimes. How much money does that cost the taxpayer every year? How many people are getting sick from drugs that are made by people who will use anything from drain cleaner to battery acid to make them?
It's just like alcohol prohibition. When you make things like drugs and alcohol illegal they are harder to regulate( people will give poison to other people if they can make a buck. Then they feed that poison to kids. Don't you people know that a kid can get drugs faster then they can get their hands on booze?). So why don't we try something else. The war on drugs can not be won the way we are going. Not as long as there is money in it for the crooks. This thing isn't about guns and the gun laws in the U.S. . It's about money. Even if you could cut off all of these guns that are said to be from the U.S. Who is to stop the gangs from getting them from some place else( if the guns are really coming from the U.S., like My Fellow Americans said, "WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU CANT BUY GRENADES AND RPGS IN AMERICA! THEY ARE COMING FROM OTHER SOURCES! THESE PEOPLE ARE CRIMINALS! THIS IS NO DIFFERENT THEN THE TALIBAN OR THE IRAQI INSURGENCY OR HAMAS! THEY ARE BEING SUPPLIED BY SOMEONE BUT NOT SOME FFL GUN DEALER IN TEXAS. "}? If you take the money out of this, Then you will crush the gangs. People will stop killing. Kids will find it harder to get drugs. We would save billions. Maybe even solve some other problems with the money that could be made from taxing drugs.
Wake Up. Liberty matters. Forget gun registration, that just tells the government where to pick up the weapons when they want them. Your right to self defense, your right to preserve liberty against Tyranny and Usurpation, requires diligence. By the way, the 2nd Amendment does not grant us the right to bear arms- we already have it completely. What it does, is Remind Congress that we have power over them, and they would do well to remember that if they ever try to usurp power. Remember the revolution and 1776.
Sadly, like Spooner, I see the Constitution as not just a Dead Letter, but utterly undefended by Americans. We need to remember that we already live under Tyranny and the government does not really care about any of our rights- they have moved so far away from respect for us- ever since Lincoln- that we would do well to shut it down and live without a Federal Government. Private solutions exists for every single service we have delegated down to the state and every single service states have delegated down to the Federal Government. No power has ever existed at the Federal or State level that We The People were not first Naturally granted. You cannot delegate down what you first do not possess.
Time to take back Liberty. Read Tom DiLorenzo, Walter Block, Lew Rockwell, Ron Pail, Lysander Spooner, and everyone else at LewRockwell.com and Mises.org.
Make a difference today.
Right now (3/25/2009) I am watching this report about the kids being assassins for the cartels and can not help but notice the date on the tape is from 7-28-2006; which of course means that this is old news which is true. Another point that I would like to state is that they talk about Garcia being killed with his wife pregnant wife in the car. Not only do they fail to state that this happened in 2005 they also fail to state that Garcia was a high ranking member in the Mexican Mafia and was involved in the drug trade (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xu3Z8QqUgtE&feature=related) (start watching at 6:45).The truth is that this has been going on for a long time! So what is the advantage of bringing it up now and making a big deal about something that has been going on for years? As did many other people in school I read the book 1984 by George Orwell and realized, like everyone else did, that I would not want to live in that kind of world; but when I look at where we are today it brings up some unsettling similarities. I see people setting up cameras in their homes in the form of computers and phones that allow you to see the person you?re talking to. Do you really think that the government could not access those cameras and see into your homes? There is GPS being put into cars and cell phones which makes it easy to follow your every movement should the government choose to. Even while driving around in my car I see random video cameras set up around the city and also there are now cameras set up on the side of the highway that takes your picture and sends you a ticket if you are speeding. On the news they are saying Mexico may become a failed state but do not go into detail of what that means. It is a term is very broad and does not include details. The term ?terrorists? is also being used to strike fear into people. Now I may wrong but I do see something that can very possibly occur in the near future and that is using the Mexican drug war to strike fear in American citizens in order to slowly strip away our rights to privacy and our freedom. I hear of making national ID cards and RFID chips will hold all of your personal information including finger prints and DNA data. I see us heading in the direction of 1984 and I think we need to stand up and look at what is really going on here. We need to stand united and not allow this to happen. It is your everyday, average people who are the foundation of this nation and without a stable foundation everything will fall. This is just my opinion on our current situation and I am practicing my right to freedom of speech. If you agree I encourage you to repost this in as many blogs and places possible and talk to family and friends about it. I am not saying I am right or wrong but just take my opinion into consideration with an open mind.
We dont sell automatic weapons, traffickers do.
Why doesn't Mexico close its own borders??? BECAUSE THEY WANT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION, IT HELPS THEIR ECONOMY BUT NOT OURS, So I also cry foul.
They want the US to foot in the bill while they grow.
They want no guns? well how about Mexico regulates its own border....OH but wait....THEY LOBBY IN THE US for open borders because their economy doesn't grow fast enough to handle their failed culture of having 10 kids per family, even when that family could not support the first kid to begin with.
How about they stopped having kids like is a competition, maybe then less gangs would be around, maybe then less illegal immigration would take place.
but no, they are too lazy to solve their own problems, so WE HAVE TO FOOT IN THE BILL, and when we cry foul and dont want to subsidize their stupidity they say we are violating human rights or any other stupid reason to not see that THEY ARE THEIR OWN PROBLEM.
If the US did regulate the borders, Mexico cries foul, because fo course Mexico wants less unemployment even if the US has to take the hit.
ANd thus Mexico spends MILLIONS lobbying for open borders because it benefits them, and their economy.
But of course if WE DID regulate the borders, Mexico would have literally a civil war, because of huge unemployment.
They have asked for open borders and of course now it does not benefit them so they blame the US.
The US started to regulate gun sales. 50% of guns used in Mexico stopped. So now the gun traffickers use MEXICO'S own idea of open borders.
THe US doesn't self automatic weapons, a drug lord doesn't go to a legal store and buys 10,000 rifles, he goes to a trafficker.
If the US did regulate its borders, Mexico would not only be weak, but with huge unemployment, but they want us to regulate guns but not illegal immigration.
Mexico has double standards.
The US is not the one to blame for the gun problems, the government nor any law abidding convention nor store sells automatic weapon, russian, american, israeli, asian gun traffickers do those sales. And if Mexico stopped lobbying we would be able to close the borders to all ILLEGAL passage.
but of course, all illegal passage means Mexico would have to deal with HUGE unemployement.
Because they are a growing economy, but their culture is to have kids left and right without care, just like africa, the woman have 1 kid, and its starving, but instead of making the descision to not have more kids because already the famiyl cant support one, they have 3....5.....8.
So some of that extra starving unemployed have to go somewhere in order for the Mexican country to survive, so WE THE US HAVE TO FOOT IN THE BILL.
They want regulation?
Send the national guard.
close 90% of the border, let Oil go north, let money aid for Mexico go south, EVERYTHING ELSE is regulated.
ANd if that happens I can guarantee you, MOST illegal guns will stop flowing south....but then mexico will cry foul because we aren't helping their unemployment problem.
THEIR CULTURE, is the problem.
if they didn't have kids like is some sort of competition with rabbits, as if humanity if facing extintion, they wouldn't have huge unemployement and thus would have less crime.
The prime suspect and prime culprit is their culture of having babies like there is no tomorrow, but then blame others for not subsidizing their negligence.
I have a home in Mexico and see the results of the growing terror created by the Sinoloa cartel fueled by American assault weapons.
When I see the NRA and The Minutemen more concerned about the lives and well-being of poor Mexicans than their gun profits and racist hatred, I will join the NRA.
These types of guns, grenades, RPGs etc are not available in the US PERIOD. They are coming from the Mexican military, South America, and other places like Africa.
If the Mexican Attorney General states 50% are coming from the US, then why will he not provide serial numbers as proof?
I am a U.S. Army Special Forces NCO with 18 years of experience.
Understand this.
They speak of "assault rifles" and claim that they come from America.
They speak of Grenades and RPG's. They show you in the video Grenades and RPG's and machine guns not only "ASSAULT RIFLES".
The blame is then being put on someone in the U.S. supplyIing 50% of all the weapons to what some report as 100,000 cartel gunmen.
Our own AG and DHS SEC say that we must curb the "assault weapons"
coming from America"
WHAT ABOUT THE FACT THAT YOU CANT BUY GRENADES AND RPGS IN AMERICA!
Anderson Cooper has been to Iraq how many times? What was he doing brushing his hair?
If you add the number of IRAQ and AFG US deaths combine they DONT match the deaths from MEXICO FOR ONE YEAR!
THEN THE STATE OF TEXAS PUTS ITS NATIONAL GUARD ON ALERT BECAUSE THE U.S. PRESIDENT WONT HELP HIM.
WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!WHY ARE WE LETTING THIS HAPPEN? AMERICA WAKE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!YOU SHOULD BE SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR FREEDOM AND LIBERTY. TAKE THE PILL OF RATIONAL AND FREE THOUGHT. KATRINA HUH! WHAT ABOUT CALIFORNIA, ARIZONA, NEWMEXICO, TEXAS. PUT DOWN YOUR POLITICAL SACRED COWS AND OPEN UP YOUR OWN MIND. TURN OFF TUNE OUT DROP TO YOUR KNEES AND HUMBLE YOURSELF AND STOP BELIEVEING ALL OF THEIR LIES!
Close the ******* borders, then just ENFORCE existing laws. No guns from the US, no dead Mexican citizens.
Arizona has a huge problem with kidnapping, too. Our new director of homeland security should know better.
"You, the people, need to do something other than point to these organizations."
You mean create grassroots organizations like the Minutemen? They get labeled as vigilantes and our own government works with Mexico to tell them where the Minutemen were hiding.
What would you suggest?
You, the people, need to do something other than point to these organizations.
We need to literally and figuratively revolt. Things all around the world are falling apart, we need to start fixing these issues, and #1 priority should be to GIVE PEOPLE BACK THEIR RIGHTS.
If Marijuana was found today, in some remote location it would be hailed as a wonder drug, and would revolutionize industry and biofuels today.... THAT is the message that needs to be shared.
And it is simply IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTING that this is not what is being said. The media has failed this country, and it's EXACTLY what the government, and those in power wanted. No more news papers will be a terrible thing, but they did it to themselves by being to disgustingly biased in the last 10 years (more like 100)
Here is the real story. The US will legalize recreational drugs. It is only a matter of time. Are you going to take the lead on this story or not? Here are some facts from Rob Kampia, Executive Director, Marijuana Policy Project (MPP):
"1. MARIJUANA THE BIGGEST ISSUE: Two huge surveys of citizen activists across the country ? one on Change.gov on December 12, and one on Change.org on January 15 ? showed that the number-one issue on people's minds is ending the government's war on marijuana users.
"2. BONG HIT SEEN AROUND THE WORLD: On February 1, the world learned that Olympic swimming champion Michael Phelps had used marijuana a few months before, demonstrating yet again that using marijuana is compatible with being wildly successful in our society. When Kellogg's dropped its endorsement contract with Phelps ? and MPP and other organizations responded by calling for a boycott of Kellogg's ? the public's perception of Kellogg's took a nose dive.
"3. EL PASO RESPONDS TO MEXICAN VIOLENCE: Responding to the prohibition-caused violence just over the border in Mexico, on January 6 the El Paso City Council unanimously passed a resolution calling for "an honest, open national debate on ending the prohibition of narcotics," which drew the ire of some Texas politicians but also sparked a great deal of positive media coverage nationwide.
"4. NATIONAL POLLING HIGHEST EVER: Between January 11 and February 14, three different national polls indicated that either 40%, 41%, or 44% of the American people now support ending marijuana prohibition. This is the highest level of support since marijuana was first prohibited in 1937, with support having risen by 1% a year since 1995.
"5. REVOLT IN LATIN AMERICA: On February 12, a commission led by three former presidents from Brazil, Colombia, and Mexico released a long-awaited report that blasted the U.S. drug war and called for the decriminalization of marijuana.
"6. ENDING THE DEA's RAIDS IN CALIFORNIA: On February 25, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that the DEA would no longer be raiding medical marijuana clinics in California and the 12 other states where medical marijuana is legal.
"7. MEDICAL MARIJUANA BILLS MOVING: MPP's medical marijuana bills are moving through the Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, and New York Legislatures, and the Drug Policy Alliance's similar legislation is moving in New Jersey. We have a real chance of making medical marijuana legal in four of these six states this year and ? in the meantime ? it's very possible that Montana and Rhode Island will expand their existing medical marijuana laws, too.
"8. BROADER MARIJUANA BILLS MOVING: California shook the nation when a bill to tax and regulate marijuana was introduced on February 23. And even before that happened, the Hawaii, Montana, Vermont, and Washington Legislatures had already begun considering bills to decriminalize marijuana.
"9. MPP DOMINATING ON YOUTUBE: As of today, MPP's channel on YouTube.com is the 10th most subscribed of all nonprofit channels, and MPP's videos are consistently in the top 10 most-viewed of all nonprofit videos in any given week. (And our 65,000 friends on MySpace.com places MPP among the top 10 most popular nonprofit organizations there, too.)
"10. ONGOING MEDIA EXPLOSION: According to the weekly reports we get from Google, MPP has been getting its message into the news in the last month at 10 times the volume of previous months. And four different national TV specials are tentatively scheduled to look at marijuana over just a two-month span: CNBC looked at the marijuana industry in northern California on January 22, NBC's "Dateline" covered the Rachel Hoffman tragedy in Florida on January 23, ABC's "20/20" with John Stossel will be looking at medical marijuana on March 13, and MSNBC with Al Roker will be looking at the multi-billion-dollar marijuana industry on March 15."
Come on 60 Minutes. When are you going to report on THIS?
Why do politicians and the Media blame crime on the millions of people that own firearms legaly, not the criminals using them as they break the law? Build the fence, stop the illegal traffic of people and drugs, and let Mexico fix their own mess.My taxes and Constitutional Rights are not for the Mexican Government's convenience.
Yes there is a lot of crime, a lot of kidnapping but but it is only in certain drug controlled areas, elsewhere is pretty safe. Mexico has some of the best beaches in the worls and some of the best site seeings in the world. Just go to Cancun, Chiapas, the Huasteca Potosina, and you will find some natu
