February 13, 2009 10:16 PM

A clause in the stimulus package calls for a "buy American" clause concerning steel. But as Lesley Stahl reports, some fear that this clause could lead to trade retaliation.

I know people that sell steel ... major quantities of steel that go into buildings, bridges, etc... They will tell you that you get what you pay for. Steel that comes from China (do not know about Russia... never discussed that source) is substandard and cheap. Just like the building insulaion and materials used in the past couple of years in new home construction that is now rotting and emitting toxic fumes in homes that sold for for $400,000 and more. And of course, the builders (according to the builders) had no choice but to use these materials. When will we ever learn?

leslie stahl or cbs does not allow or has edited out a full explanation of the facts of how other countries use protectionism against the u.s. for the u.s. not to use tariffs back makes us saps. reminds me of the big wet kiss she gave to alan greenspan before the economic crisis hit, but while it was well known to be coming by leslie, cbs, and the powers that be. rewriting the bancruptcy code before the crisis, anyone?

She must have eaten lead paint chips as a child... I had to register to post this message then what was the first thing i had to see after i registered... A advertisement for suzuki on CBS's site.. I wish he would have used a American bat to hit her over the head to knock some sense into her and send her to a hospital that uses only chinese medicines and tools.. Hopefully she would drink the tainted chinese milk and is in a room with chinese sheet rock that emits toxic fumes..

?I have come to a resolution myself, as I hope every good citizen
will, never again to purchase any article of foreign manufacture which
can be had of American make, be the difference of price what it may.?

Thomas Jefferson

Be American, Buy American.... Why you might ask, well its simple... If you keep the money circulating within the USA all that money gets taxed and spent here... Not in china, korea, middle east and all those places that are in trade and currency wars with us. I know we cant just purely stop buying foreign goods but its all about BALANCE... If you can use common sense which she obviously doesn't have, do the right thing and buy american made products that are owned by american companies.

Thank You Dan! I agree with the Nucor CEO. Finally someone is getting the fact that we are loosing jobs in this country because of all the corporations outsourcing jobs to other countries. China continues to cheat and provide the US with tainted goods and we must get back to supporting companies that employ Americans instead of companies claiming to be American Companies but refuse to invest in American workers. If Americans began a movement to buy goods made in America first, we would be supporting each other. Go Nucor!
