Is Peace Out Of Reach?

January 25, 2009 4:00 PM

Has peace in the Middle East become nothing more than a pipe dream? As Bob Simon reports, a growing number of Israelis and Palestinians feel that a two-state solution is no longer possible.

jewishstate: this is not the MOST one-sided argument you've ever heard on behalf of Palestinians, this is likely to be the ONLY argument that you've heard on behalf of the Palestinians, in America at least. America works very hard at protecting it's baby, Israel, and the reality of the situation often gets overlooked.
i appreciate greatly what i have known for many years now being published on american television and i think it is important for wake-up calls like these to be presented to people from such a credible source as 60 minutes, a show that is very popular amongst americans.
im tired of the anti-semitic card being played every time israel is put in a negative light. everyone is incessantly reminded of what the germans did to the jews years ago so we are shamed and sympathetic and turn a blind eye to the grotesque parallels between that part of history and what israel (as a government) is now doing to palestinians CURRENTLY.
people need to know the truth and this short FIFTEEN MINUTE report did exactly that. it wasn't a 5 hour rant-fest of "i hate jews" it was a very concise reporting of what they found out the situation to be in middle east, something most americans don't know the truth about.
thank you CBS! i'm sure you caught a lot of flack for airing this but don't let the israeli lobby muscle you into being too afraid to expose the realities of this world, whether related to this topic or ANY OTHER MATTER in the world.
thanks!

Do Jews have the right to live in peace in Palestine/Israel? Absolutely. Does Israel in it's current political structure have the right to exist? Absolutely Not. Either it accepts a one state solution (My preference since it seems no one wants to divide the land) or a two state solution around the pre 1967 line.

This is the most one-sided, anti-Israel video of recent years. Little wonder that Israel-haters have crawled out of their holes to thank CBS.

I would like to take the time to thank you for this report. We all know that the truth hurts. I have to say that you will have done to you what you do to others. What I don?t understand is, with the fresh memories of what happened to Jews in Europe, they turn around and do the same and more to the Palestinians. I hate to believe that this can only be solved with force. I wish peace to both. Learn from history; don?t ignore the facts and basic human rights.

Thanks alot for presenting the truth!
Truth needs brave men to present!
However, reality is even more cruel.Israeli criminals torture and kill everything alive in Palestine. The Palestinians do deserve their own free life without horror. They deserve to eat, drink, learn and live with dignity. So,the large prison in Gaza must come to an end.
Thanks again and we are waiting for other programs presenting the truth like this.By free tongue to 60 MINUTES

I am not pro- or anti- Israel nor am I pro- or anti-Palestinian; however I am against the illegal settlements, which only incite violence, as well as the construction of wall going through Palestinians' farms, taking away their only source of income. The Palestinians are not going away and Israel needs to be able to deal with that in a more constructive way. While I think this is an enlightening piece, it is, unfortunately, very biased and one-sided. I think 60 Minutes (and Bob Simon) could have done a much better (and frankly, more journalistic) segment on the situation in Israel.

I dont like to fuss so now lets get down to the real issue. Much because there is already many ppl jibberijabbing about this conflict already that you cant actually try to make any sound and be heard good enough. There will still be millions who clames the same **** all over again anyway. I dont want half truth answers and Iam not looking for a dude to tell if Iam right or wrong. Iam not looking for sympathy or to show off. Iam just wondering, because I have some questions always popping out in my questions. Normal questions. Here is my story:

After second world war polish jews came to my grandfathers home in what today is called "Tel Aviv" which also is the biggest developing city in what we today like to call the democratic country Israel. They came with guns screaming, shooting and protected to my grandfathers family who were living theyre own life and making theyre own food by planting and so on. They forced my grandfather and his family to move with violence, to leave his house and his life behind to move to Gasa. He was forced to seek a place in a Refugee camp to build his own house and never really finished it cause he always thought he would return to his former house. During this process some in my family got murdered. The guys in the village who were to stubbard to move out faced the death itself.

Massacres took place during al nakba when the stealing of the peoples ground occured. Anyway my father (the oldest son in the family) decided to keep the key to the old house and even the contract and its still in his current house til this day. The house built in Gasa is still unfinished and people are still waiting to return to theyre homes.

Why cant I today as a palestinian with palestinian pass move back to my homecountry when Israel is integrating jewish people from all over the world to move them into settlements? Why cant I go back and take what actually belongs to my family when I have key contract and signs on paperwork. Is the extremisms between the palestinians the biggest issue, Hamas? Hamas didnt exist 40 years ago, the hate and the extremism came all up from europe at that time where jewish people came from bad times and started treating the palestinians bad in the same time as arabic countries around started treating jewish people bad. As for jewish people who also have these problems; Iam confident that many didnt have a good background also.

But still what are these polish guys doing in my home in my homecountry? How can you actually steal, murder and then lie without any consequenses? If someone comes to your homecountry and takes your home and your family; what is there to think about? What is there to discuss?

Are we actually discussing however the Israeli leaders want peace or not? The Israeli leaders are still aiming to improve theyre own country and stealing more ground, killing more people now, everything is heading in that direction. Why are people actually defending this?

With illegal settlements Israel has made it impossible for a two-state solution to be successful. Thus only a single secular state can be achieved. Zionism will effectively have destroyed the state of Israel.
