And P.S. I also believe that Mr. Martin could not have been more condescending toward President-Elect Obama and Admiral Mullen. It is time to talk, all that can be accomplished with guns has been accomplished in Afghanistan.

Seems to me that this is eerily similar to Vietnam back in ''73. Agreements and promises were made that were broken immediately after the last of the combat troops were withdrawn, and the war was "Vietnamized". The Taliban will just bide their time until the last of the troops are withdrawn and then come out of their caves and grottoes to once again seize control of the country, they, like the Communists in Vietnam know that the Americans, like all of the others who sought to occupy Afghanistan as far back as Alexander the Great will run out of will or money or both and eventually leave. Obama didn''t start this, or the Iraq war, but again, like Vietnam, will have to finish what the president before him started. It seems to me that, as the Buddhists believe, history is indeed cyclical.

THe fear of Afghanistan should be taken seriously. These people have been fighting for thousands of years. They knocked out the Russians and others. When they are not fighting outsiders, they are fighting amongst themselves. They are supplied by our enemies. They live in caves. They are tough buggers who think that death is better than living. I guess I would think that if I lived in a cave.
Before we send another 30,000 troops in, I hope they Think this out. Most wars are won when the political will is broken. I cannot see a political solution. Genocide, wipe them all out? I think that is impossible. The joint chief of staff better think outside the box and come up with a better solution besides bombing them to hades. The bad guys cannot hide in Pakistan or anywhere else, lick their wounds, and then come back and kick our butts with another generation of fanatic religious nuts. They will wait us out, until we lose the will or go broke. We should not use Afghanistan to satisfy the Military Industrial Complex''s insatiable supply of money.

Could David Martin have been any more disrespectful?
I''m pretty sure that Bill Clinton doesn''t have a military background. Mr. Martin practically sneered when he informed the viewers that President-elect Obama has no military experience.
So???
I''m tired of the hawkish attitude prevalent in the U.S. It''s time to talk.
And use some money here at home instead of building submarines that the Defense Department didn''t even request or buying overpriced equipment or equipment that doesn''t work.
I would hope that Mr. Martin will give more objective reports in the future.
