After watching Andy Rooney's homage to newspapers it was a joy to lisiten to him talk of his time as a little boy, but as a African American female it's sad to know that my great grandfather did not have the opportunity to sell newspapers and receive 5 cents a day and allowed to save and go the movies. My great grandfather was probably working for Rooney's father free! and unable to watch a movie nor could even READ a newspaper. So, I say comment on something that will affect all people not just old white men!

Though, it amazes me to hear the sour snippets and read the postings from the zenophobic minority who can''t see through the tinted curtains at the most intelligent and humble family ever to occupy the White house; I know I speak for the majority in saying I''m thrilled to have some normal people in the White House (for a change.) I believe they represent an opportunity to be spoken for and to be cared for.
I pray for their strength and their safety. I know we will not be held in contempt by an Obama administration and I look forward to seeing if the mainstream media can keep it real for a change.

I forgot what it was like to be optomistic, until they called this election. Pinch me.

This black president-elect has made this skinny white midwesterner proud to be American again.

This man makes me want to be a better person....to do more for my fellow man and my country.

This is a special moment in history. I''m glad to be witness to it!

To the negative commenters, we still love you...

President-Elect Obama is going to be one of the greatest presidents America has ever had. I hope you will join me and countless others in giving him a chance to be a great leader, perhaps for all of mankind. As an African American, however, I am quite proud of the new and positive image the President-Elect and his family portray, particularly for people of color. The sky is the limit and all things are certainly possible. I mean hallelujah, we can get rid of some stereotypes. Perhaps the media will continue to portray all aspects of African-American life as we witnessed in the "60-Minute" interview.

But what the President-Elect has done for me personally is create a strong desire to just BE a better person and to stop putting my dreams on hold. I find that I search harder for my Christianity and my humanity first in dealing with people and situations. Perhaps there is hope for this world.

Still, we must find a way for newspapers to make money from the web...I do not want them going away.

Since you read your papers online, simply subscribe to your local paper. Use it for whatever you want or donate it to a school. Circulation needs to increase so Ad Revenue can at least stay the same.

Remember... The same people who write for the newspaper websites won''t have jobs if the papers go under.

There is a stirring in my soul where the counterpoint has meet when I hear this interview with the Obama''s. A soul of a nation who carelessly passed on opportunity after opportunity seeing voting as more of a after thought versus a privilage. A carnal minded way of thinking saying "What does my opinion matter?" How dare the eye say to the hand; I''m more important than you for I can see what you want to touch. Well isn''t it the hand that reaches out to touch what the eye desires? We are all one body and we are all important. This man realizes this. But so many times because of the carnal minded way of thinking we let senseless cowards into the oval for personal agenda. This was an act of God which truly reminds me that HE is an ever caring FATHER. Tonight I go to bed and pray for this man''s family, health, well-being, mind, body and soul. A relentless pursuit of a closeness to Jesus the God of a nation to which this country was founded on!

I was an odd kid. When I was nine I listened to JFK turn down the vice presidential nomination in 1954 on the radio. I knew then he had great potential. I listened to Bobby Kennedy during his brief run for president and was impressed enough to vote for him, my first vote. I have listened to many politicians over the years and can''t quite put president elect Obama in the same catagory as JFK but he is the closest I have heard since then. He has promise. He can explain himself extremely well. Here is hoping he can come through for us.

I have been a supporter of Barack Obama since his first speech at the Democratic National Convention. From the moment he spoke, I knew that all my prayers for another President like JFK had been answered. I had hoped that my two sons, now in their 30''s, would have the experience of someone like JFK. It was not to be. But my four grandsons, young as they are, (the oldest is 3 1/2) will at least have the presence if not the awareness, of a great leader in their lives. For those who are not old enough to remember or who were not born in time to experience "Camelot", you are in for the time of your lives. President-elect Obama is going to take us on a journey to a better time and place. We will be invited and even encouraged to participate; and even more incredibly, we will be so enthused, we won''t be able to resist jumping onboard. Even those who did not choose Mr. Obama in the voting booth will be amazed at the new dynamics to come. And having a young and vibrant First Lady and young children in the White House will invigorate the most lethargic amoung us. Our long national nightmare is over. This is truly the dawn of a new time and a new place. It will not be easy and there will be many hard times ahead. But anything is possible when you believe. So from a young woman who grew up in the 60''s and is now a 61-year-old grandmother: Yes We Can. Yes We Did. Yes We Will.

I agree. However, I must admit that I am one of those that reads newspapers online. I will always do this because it allows me to read a multitude of newspapers from all over the world. Invaluable.

Still, we must find a way for newspapers to make money from the web...I do not want them going away. Even though they are NOT what they used to be (where is investigative reporting these days?), they are still better than the Entertain/News on TV.
