November 11, 2008 8:21 AM

When Scott Pelley and his crew walked around Guiyu, they ended up getting roughed up by locals, who were not amused by a TV camera capturing all the illegal waste.

Watching this made wonder; what happened to the piles of computers, and other applicances from Katrina? My husband volunteered there after the hurrican and at the World Trade Centers after the attack. He reported seeing "mountains of computers" in the waste. What about the thousands that were distroyed at the WTC? Talk about toxic waste? These are things we are never told about. Just wondering.

Dear "Exposed1st" Sometimes it is easier to expose the problem and blame others than it is to deal with it. If you took the investigation further and reported on the majority of ASSET TAGS on the equipment I wonder if you would really uncover the source of the pollution? Large corporations and some Govt. agencies are the worst about auctioning the obsolete product off to the highest bidder without asking any questions about it''s ultimate destination. They care about immediate gratification and bottom line recognition, not the future of our children and our planet. The State of CA. has SB20/50 for the Proper recycling of CRT material. An advanced recovery fee when you purchase a new TV or Computer Monitor. Designed to ensure the proper handling and separation of clean glass from leaded and responsible recycling. The program has driven a frenzy of exporters who collect as much CRT material as possible, collect from the state "General Fund" then get paid to ship the material offshore...... Again, sometimes we are our own worst enemy. "The most difficult lesson in life to learn, which bridge to cross and which bridge to burn." Ask people who point the finger where their material goes. Perhaps that''s another investigation.

Sadly, Executive Recycling appears now to be the victim of others who have obtained electronic and computer products from our company and then acted irresponsibly. These buyers apparently sought to hide their own misconduct by leaving the impression that their shipment was the responsibility of our company. We have discovered that forged documents (provided by the port authorities) were used to improperly shift blame to us when ER sold the tested working units to a Canadian wholesale buyer. We are currently seeking legal actions against this one wholesale buyer in regards to this report.
Executive Recycling worked for the past two months with 60 Minutes regarding this investigation and provided 5 container numbers and bill of ladens for one Basel Action Network member who has signed the pledge and which states on their website "we will not engage in the exporting or dumping of e-waste, or in the use of prison labor in our recycling processes" - Denver Based Company.

Executive Recycling urges the Environmental Protection Agency and the government of the United States and other civilized societies to prepare and enact further laws and regulations to make sure that no individuals or environments are damaged through irresponsible disposal of computer or electronic products. Executive Recycling has cooperated with the Environmental Protection Agency in the past and will continue to do so in an effort to see that humans and the environment are protected.
